Another of the handful of .HACK clones out there today, but this one differentiates itself in many intriguing ways right off the bat. One of the smartest and most charming shows I've seen in a long time - tackles a lot of grand, mature subjects in and out of gaming, but stays relatable throughout and never loses sight of the little things. Starts a little slow, but quickly gets several gripping subplots rolling at once and manages be tense and dramatic even when it seems the characters haven't a care in the world. Recommended for MMO geeks, deep thinkers, and generally people who like things that are good.

Pretty much the polar opposite of the above: From the people who brought you Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and apparently an even bolder expression of their latent nudist fancies, welcome to a world where clothes are weapons and removing them is not just creepoid, it's survival. As fanservicey as humanly possible, but within that is a strangely genuine moral for girls about confidence and self-image, not to mention a generous helping of strong and varied female characters (and let's be real, if you're getting randy to this show it's probably from all the cute boys and their tight butts). And of course, these are people who've rolled with Gainax before so you KNOW the plot is gonna be a f██kin' mess by the end. Just beware that emotional rollercoaster, you'll get whiplash if you lean the wrong way.

    STEINS;GATE
    Ended (2011) • 24 Episodes + 1 OVA + 1 Movie
    Science Fiction/Psychological/Time Travel/SONUVABITCH

From the makers of Chaos;Head and Robotics;Notes, and based on the Visual Novel of the same name, Steins;Gate is a science filled ride with tsunderes, mad scientists, and catgirls. You follow the main protagonist, an undergrad science student named Okabe Rintarou a.k.a. HOUOUIN KYOUMA as he wades through life with fellow lab members Daru and Mayuri (Mayushii). However, when he meets the tsunderific scientist Makise Kurisu, then discovers and builds a time machine, the very mundane aspects of his life take a quick turn for the most intense ride of his life. Probably my favorite anime of 2011 (sorry Madoka), Steins;Gate has a painfully slow start. but when the plot kicks in, you'll be caught in a time loop till you finish. Filled with strong and varied characters of all sexes and genders, gorgeous cinematography, comedic moments, and more Dr. Pepper than you can handle, you're in for a real treat. Recently, a non-canon movie was released in theaters, and is now available for Blu-Ray sale in Japan. While it's not canon, I found it to be very worthwhile and a nice addition to the story overall.

    PUELLA MAGI MADOKA MAGICA
    Ended (2011) • 12 Episodes + 3 Movies
    Science Fiction/Magical Girl/Psychological//人 ‿‿ 人\

You've seen Sailor Moon, Little Witch Academia, and Cardcaptor Sakura. Think of everything sweet and cheery about magical girls. Is it in your head? Got it all down? Good, now go watch this one. Puella Magi Madoka Magica is a rather unexpected entry into the magical girls genre, taking many people by surprise with a story unlike most in the field. With animation brought by SHAFT and a soundtrack straight from Yuki Kujiara, things are guaranteed to start off pretty weird then escalate before you know it. There are three additional movies after the films, the first two mainly just a recap of the show. The third movie, Rebellion Story, is a canon continuation of the story, however.

For one almighty rec thread it's short. Lol. At the moment I'm going to recommend Charlotte.

    Name of Anime/Manga: Charlotte
    Ongoing? (Yes/No):Yes
Number of Episodes/Chapters: 6 at the moment, total: 13
Genre: Supernatural, Super power, School, Drama
Brief Description: A type of sickness that only affects teens and preteens have been made apparent to our MC who is one of those teens. At first using his powers to further his own gain he gets quickly thwarted by two people who are informing these teens that their power will disappear when they grow up and that if they continue to use it they could be captured by scientists and be experimented on. Yuu Otosaka(MC) joins the group and transfers schools to help them find these other teens and ensure their safety.

Main reason I recommend this is because the story is written by Jun Maeda. If you don't know who that is well I'll list off his other well documented works. Clannad, Air, Little Busters, Kanon, Angel Beats, everything Key/Visual Arts have created. Having watched 6 episodes already I can strongly recommend this anime.[/B]

Brief Description/Why It's 2 Cool 4 School: After a civil war, Japan's prefectures have all become their own sovereign nations. Defending each prefecture is a Best--a person with a unique superhuman ability. Their followers, the non-powered Rest, assist the peacekeeping on a smaller scale, working in the background to support their Best. When Saitama's Best becomes injured, a rookie Rest named Nozomi takes it upon herself to travel the vibrant divided Japan on her motorcycle to help keep the peace in the Best's stead. Nozomi is joined by luckless but well-meaning Yukina, brash and headstrong Ai, and plucky yet enigmatic Chiaya, who all have their own personal reasons for coming along for the ride. And just what are those mysterious pink heart-shaped stones falling from the sky?
