Sweet Poison

Nox dumped the noodles into the pot, "there are some pepers in cabnit there could you chop them up for me?"
Nox got another pot and dumped red sause in it.

 

Daine grabbed said pepper, and started cutting it into nice diced pieces. She hummed gently as she worked, her eyes intent. Her mom had taught her about human food, and it was actually quite good. She wondered if this would be anything like that.

 

Nox dumped a few things he already choped up and put it into the sause.
"So ever been this far away from home," Nox asked keeping his eyes on the task at hand.

 

Daine smiled a little. "Once. A long time ago." The peppers done, slid the tray in front of him, then sat back, playing with a strand of hair. "I was four years old."

 

"Where do you go," Nox asked. He put the pepers in the red sause and stired it around. He looked at Daine for an answer.

 

She smiled a little. "My mom and I were running from humans. We went to the mountains on the east coast. We would have sailed, but...." she shrugged. "We didn't get the chance."

 

"Why is everyone after you," Nox asked, "you seem lika a normal person to me so why all the hunting?"

 

Daine looked up at him, her teel eyes piercing. "We are not normal. We are nymphs. Anyone who learns how to control us controls our power. If killed, we provide longer lives. Why wouldn't we be hunted?"

 

"You don't think to highly of yourselfs do you," Nox said, "Maybe it because of your unwillingness to do anything about it. Make some sort of stand."

 

She smiled bitterly. "Our race is diminished. It's not that we won't do anything, it's that we tried. Haven't you read your history? We are even smaller then the human race, and they are going extinct."

 

"You guys realy need to think about hiding and mixing races," Nox said, "The witches did that and were doing okay now."

 

Daine sighed, rubbing her wrist. "A few girls like me tried to "mix" races. They died." She stared at the counter top bleakly. "They were my friends."

 

"Sorry to hear it didn't work out," Nox said as he stired, "So what was his name."

 

She shrugged. "Doesn't matter. He's dead." She let her wrist fall, brushing her hair back. "I made sure of it."

 

"He tried to kill you," Nox asked. The noodles were done. Nox walked over and dumped the water outside.

 

Daine shrugged. "Maybe, or maybe I sought him out." She followed him with her eyes, tense. "We never forget. Never. One of the qualities of being one of us."

 

"So you didn' try to mix speices I'm confused," Nox said. He dumped the sause pon top of the noddles and stired slowly.

 

Daine smiled thinly. "He tried. That's why my friends died, so I killed him in revenge. We are a rather vengefull species." she remarked, skimming a finger along the counter top. "I suppose it comes from our sense of trust."

 

"You know what I'm not going to go into it," Nox said. He set two plates on a small table and got out forks.

 

Daine couldn't help but laugh. "I suppose that is best." she watched. "Anything else I can do to help?" she asked, still curious as to what he was making. She would try it, but she still wondered.
