Sweet Poison

Saro continued to thrash and wreath. By the force of pain, his eyes were glued shut, unable to understand what was going on. It hurt so much. Damn that witch. Damn him and all his kind!

 

Aly threw him into the water, then waited. If he didn't come out...she was going to have to go get him, and figure something else out. She wearily shifted back to human, wondering how much more stress her body could take before she gave out again. Sitting down, she waited, shivering slightly in the cold.

 

After a minute of being submerged, Saro lifted himself out of the icy abyss he was thrown into by his Beta. After coughing up some excess water, he began to rub his cursed back. It burned, but is wasn't ablaze as before. Still soaked, he looked up at his pack leader.

"Wha...what happened?" was all he was able to sputter at his Beta's feet.

 

Aly picked him out of the water, frowning slightly. "You were burning, it seemed. I'm guessing the warlock put a spell on you, or something. Are you feeling alright now?" For being a loner, she was developing some disturbing feelings and characteristics. This displeased her, but she ignored it for now. She had dragged him into this, she would make sure he was okay.

 

Saro nodded, if he was in his wolf form, his ears would be drooping from the weight of humiliation and hunger. Enraged, he struck the ground with his soaked fist

"That dam witch! He got away, and with out prize too! Beta, what should we do about this?"

 

Aly watched him, concern hidden in her golden eyes, but present. "He fooled both of us." she said finally, and heard rustling. Snapping her hand out, she grabbed a rabbit and broke its next swiftly. "We manage." She handed it to him.

 

Cupping the furry creature in his hands, the gamma looked up at his leader. Handing his head in shame, he placed the rabbit at Aly's feet. He was a burden. He failed in catching the nymph and only succeeded in botching the whole attack. He didn't deserve to eat.

"It is tradition for the leader to eat first."

 

She grinned, then rolled her eyes. "You need it more then me, if we are to keep going. Stay here, I'll be right back." she gently pushed the dead rabbit toward him, then stood up, weaving in and out of the trees quickly. He did need to eat, and she could get another. Soon she returned with a smaller rabbit, but food. "There we go." she smiled. "So eat."

 

While she was gone, Saro dived back into the river he was thrown into and came out with a fish. It wasn't huge, but it was a decent size. He needed to contribute someway to today's catch, otherwise he couldn't consider himself a wolf.

"Please Beta, take the first bite. It is customary."

 

She sighed, then shifted, slowly, painfully, back to wolf. "I can't eat something with fur while human." She explained teasingly, then tore into the rabbit, her stomach growling. She sat down, holdign the carcass with one paw and tearing with her teeth with the other.

 

Saro sat on all fours, watching ravinously as his Beta ate. She looked so powerful, even starved she had such strength. He doubled over clutching his gut, it felt like his stomach was trying to eat itself alive. Dammit, if he had caught that nymph he could have eaten sooner.

 

Aly licked her muzzle, stained with blood, and pushed the rabbit toward him. "I had some food. Your turn." she rumbled with authority, her golden eyes bright. "I can always hunt in this shape if I must. You have to eat."

 

Nox and Daina fell to the ground with a thud. The two had apierd by anouther shack. But the air was differnt it smelled of sea salt. The plant were also differnt they had a lighter green to them.

 

Daine gasped, holding her arm to her chest. She closed her eyes, then opened them, making sure she wasn't hallucinating. "Where are we?" she asked quietly, sitting up.

 

"my home miles away from where we were," Nox said getting off the ground.

 

Daine remained sitting, still cradling her arm. "Why did you save me?" s he asked, her voice quiet, calm. "There is no reason, I'm not important. Why?" Her arm pounded dully, and she sighed inwardly. She would have to fix that soon.

 

"Would you have rather died," Nox asked, "I risked my neck to save yours can't I get a thank you."

BIC: Daine inclined her head. "Thank you." she murmured. "You don't seem to understand...for decades my kind has been hunted by all the others. We are used to death. There was a time, every morning someone was gone from the village. They never came back." she shrugged, then winced. "We accept death, knowing it might happen every day."

 

"Well thats better. You really need a pick me up," Nox said. he got out a brass key. He put the key and turned the lockall the way around.

 

Daine staggered to her feet. "What's a pick me up?" she asked curiously, her hair gently blowing against her face. She moved to brush it away, and winced. "Is it okay if I go in the river quick?"
