I don't think we should keep looking back at what game consoles games were played on then that made those consoles cool...back then. This is today and I'm not going to buy a console based on what a console way back when offered. I'm going to buy one so I can play games I want to today. Maybe I'm just not that nostalgic or something.

The question was "Which do I like better, Sony or Nintendo?" The question was not Which do I like better, Sony and all its third party developers or Nintendo?"

If we agree that this is the case, then it is clear Nintendo wins, for the simple reason, it makes its own games. What was the last killer third party game on a Nintendo system? All are Nintendo, or branches of Nintendo. Sony releases little of its own. Nintendo constantly branches out. Originally it was Pokemon, Zelda, Metroid and Mario. We still have them after however many years, along with the new games like Brain Training, Cooking Mama, Pheonix Wright and much else.

How many of them have lived for more than two generations?

The playstation is only 3 generations old. What exactly are the expecting, an age old 16-bit game by Sony?

Currently very few of Nintendo's main franchises are evolving much, they are kept alive by the fans, and fans only, and barely getting newcomers into them. Despite the fact I love Brawl, it is a game for the fans, and not much less, to everyone else it's just high speed confusing nonsense. Things change quickly now and Nintedo aren't adapting much in terms of software when compared with Sony. It did take Sony a little bit to gain speed this generation, but unlike Nintendo they are trying to correct things.

But what exactly does Nintendo need to correct?

They seem to be keeping many of their games alive just fine. The new Wii games may not be for Hardcores, but for casuals it is fantastic. Wii Sports is a success and Wii Fit seems to work fine.

Besides, the fan thing is something they have "earned". If it has fans to support it, then they must have seen something in Nintendo, and they must still see good things in the future.

Nintendo may not have many technical advancements, but they do not lose money when consoles are sold, nor is hacking rampant on their Handhelds. (Pirating, yes. Hacking is less common) Their consoles also have the advantage of not costing an arm and a leg.

Everything is going according to plan.

Right. That is relevant, because it shows how dedicated they are to a franchise. I would much rather stick my fandom with a company that has been shown to support franchises for a long time, keeping them alive and running, opposed to one still spreading its wings. Squaresoft I can vouch for, because of the Final game they made that lasted generations. Nintendo has Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pokemon, Donkey kong and the rest of the Mario spin offs.

Yeah. I know how you feel there. Earthbound was supposed to be a demo game on SSBB. It is, in Japan. Pokemon TGC 2 was Japan only. So many things are Japan only. Heck, we only have to visit the Final Mix section to know that.
