I miss being able to quickly tell a person "Hey, this post was pretty awesome" without everyone else knowing. I don't want to start a conversation or something with them, just give them a thumbs-up in the click of a button along with a short message.

And my green bar of superiority....how I miss thee...

 

Doesn't mean you you have to reply to anything you say, a conversation only works if two people are willing to talk. If you don't want to bother talking to the party that you are giving feedback or comments on their post, then that's you're choice.
Just giving you an alternative to think on here.

 

If we've got to have this stupid like system, where's the damn dislike button?

ACTUALLY HANG ON, This way I don't have a means to keep my disliking of a persons post to a private little de-rep message of "you're quite stupid" and the like, I'll just have to post it in the thread, woe is me.

 

I don't care for either system, but rep was in no way any better. I definitely won't miss the constant reports of poorly reasoned derep and autoplaying videos in people's rep comments.

 

No matter what anyone says, you're not going to convince me that this like system is better than rep, because with rep, you can tell who, for the most part, is a respected member, and leave little messages. This like system is just not working out very well, and it seems that this place is going Facebook.

Sure, I'm sure you've heard that a million times, but it looks pretty true, and that being said, it's annoying, and I don't care if that is the unpopular opinion, it will always exist, people will just end up forgetting about it and not complaining. And everyone's 'worth' on opinion is not equal now, because some people have more likes than others, you just can't see it because you'd have to view their profile for that.

 

The reason I said I don't want to message someone is because the reason I message someone is to have a conversation, albeit usually a short one.

But whatever I guess.

This. The joking part of me wants to call this Communistic to have everyone on the same level of respect, and to that extent, even Liking could be taken away because more people get them more often than others as you've said.

Aren't those two the exact same thing? If I'm reading it wrong, then feel free to correct me.

 

Well, with Likes, you can only tell by looking at the specific Liked posts. With rep....it's a bar that's always next to the user.

 

Over a hundred members had the exact same bar. Are you telling me that all those members were just as respectable? At least now you can see exactly what the difference is between two members by just clicking once on their names.

 

While I would agree to that, unfortunately it got to the point where pretty much everyone had the same size rep bar after a few posts.

I meant that with rep it's more of an anonymous thing everyone knows you were reped because of the green bar but it was more anonymous compared to the like system.

I got a trophy for likes because of my likes thread about likes! Like?

 

You don't have to use the system, it's just an added bonus.
I mean, literally in the end it shouldn't be opinions of others or their reputation that decides how you view someone, it should be through your own unbiased opinion on them throguh interactions and posts they have given.

And by worth I mean you get +1 like from any member that gives it to you, instead of varying rep like before. Everyone's opinion is worth 1, no one is superior to others in their support of other's posts and VMs. All opinions are fair and equal.

 

ive warmed up to likes. just have to keep the thought of facebook out of my head. perhaps if we could approe or disapprove of a post, same as rep, without it adding to any cumulative point system.
