So the only Final Fantasy game I've beaten was Tactics Advance. Which one should I aim for beating first?

Whichever you do end up going with, I feel you should have this in the background the whole time. Your fault, not mine.

XII was the best one. Play it, beat it, no regrets.

You could easily beat I in a day or two. Although if you want to get a nice story, games 4 and after are what you should be trying out. I suggest V though just because VOID! And it's also a very fun game.

I think I love you. Finding people who like XII is not common.

V is the Final Fantasy-est Final Fantasy of them all, in my opinion :v The last appearance of a proper job system as well, before VII broke the chain of job-system (I, III, V), no-job system(II, IV, VI) >_> I mean, it was even planned to be that way, but Squaretroll changed it v.v

    I voted for IX.
However, if you end up ever playing III, make sure you play the DS version. Same for IV.

The materias are pretty close though, we can combine them even more freely than jobs (which is why VII is my favorite).
The job system in FF Tactis (not Advance) is also neat.

As for Luxord I don' t know man, it depends what kind of story or mood you like, whether you care about freedom of customisation and exploration or not, whether you can bear 8/16/32 bits graphics or not. etc ...

i mean, i went with 7 because EVERYONE knows what it is and it has some pretty funny lines, but you should really play/finish XII. i really liked it a lot ; - ; it starts slow but the story gets really good i think.

I hated FFXII at first, but it has grown on me. Still has notable flaws, like never ending magic pools and a combat system that lets you put down the controller and watch most of the time. But it is still very enjoyable. Just be prepared for the most political plotline I've seen in Final Fantasy.

VII is a classic and worth playing, but I don't get why people love it so much.

Maybe I should have said what I've played. I have played VI, VII, and XII. I have not beaten any of them. Got too busy to continue with VI, I never owned VII or XII and had to return VII, but I got really really tired of XII when in the official guide it was like, "alright you got this guest in your party with unlimited hi-potions, go grind." I don't mind grind I was just getting tired of it. It's not on the list though because I have no way of being able to play it now. I will say I did enjoy what I did play of these three games. VII being my first because of Kingdom Hearts, I got too... some boss that trapped you in triangles? Somewhere past that, and yes I loved the comedy of it, XII was my next and I loved the license system though I do dislike how Vaan becomes non important as the story is mostly about the Basche guy and the chick with two clothes sewn together for a skirt. I got stuck on VI with some octopus boss. Turns out if you save right before it you can't leave and have to beat him so since I was unable to do so I had to restart and that just ruined it for me.

Graphics? Only important if there is a basic/no story. Not important if the game is a classic though.

Go with IX. It's probably one of the easier games in the series and it's a lot of fun. Great story and characters.

    Then avoid I-II-III.
If I put those you' ve already tried aside then V and IX are my favorites.
You don' t like grinding so ... I' d say go for IX.

Except that I and II are classics so I'm okay with that. And I don't mind grinding it's just that XII had a bit too much grinding needed.

V has at least as much grinding as XII. ^^
I-II-III, having almost no story, are all about grinding.

    Go with IX.
VI is my favorite in the series, but IX is much more accessible, and is a really amazing game.
