And that's it. I'm not going to be on at all until I get all As and Bs because my father doesn't think I can get scholarships for college at this point. And I have an E in my History class. I don't even understand the grading policy in that class. It's 70% tests and quizes, 15% Partcipation and 15% Homework. There isn't even a classwork grade nor does he collect the classwork. And that grading policy is the AP policy, which is what he used to teach before this year. Now he teaches Honors (which is what I'm in) and doesn't have a clue. He's a nice guy and all, but (from what I see. So this is totally biased), it seems that he's just thinks of it as an AP class with less homework. I don't really know anymore. I may pop on from time to time, but it won't be for long. It's not really worthy of any sort of thread in the Departure board since I don't know how long this will go on for and it's nothing big like a vacation or a life. But that was pretty much why I wasn't on this weekend. Plus Rosh Hashanah is going on.

Good luck love, I'm sorry your father is being so strict. If you really are having issues with your teacher and his lack of ability then tell someone about it. I hope you still wander in and say hi from time to time.

I'll be lost without my penguin :glomp:

    Good luck <3

It's not his ability at all. It's his grading policy. It doesn't help that I suck at tests either. =/ But yeah.......
And thanks Kay. I'll miss you guys.

Actually his grading policy is a lot like how colleges work. You do tend to get graded more strongly on quizzes, tests and class participation etc than you do on actual homework assignments. I'd consider thinking on that and well, really trying to apply yourself to that class because it might be what helps you prepare more for college.

I am sorry to hear you won't be on until your grades improve. It sucks and we'll still be here when you get back. Keep cool!

How do you get an E as a grade? Do you live outside of the US, or...?

That absolutely killed me in 9th/10th grade. I came from a progressive public school and moved to a traditional private school...all I had to do in public school was listen and do hw and I was set for the year. In private school everything comes down to tests. screw up on a test, and thats your grade for the trimester.

I have the exact opposite problem. Kinda. I do really good on tests, but I can never get HW done. I go to Bishop Hartley, and I swear, if it was only tests, I would have As and Bs in all my classes.
But I suppose it's worth it. At my school, the Juniors and Seniors get Tablet PCs. And I'm a Sophmore!

Mr. Japanese letter man wanted me to post this for him:

Snuck on for a bit. So, I just found out today that all teachers MUST have 50% of their grading policy for classwork and the other 50% is whatever they feel it should be. And it's not only me that's failing the class. Alot of others are because they didn't do well on the only test we've had so far. So yeah, I'm e-mailing him for a make-up and about the grading policy.
