    I have experience...

I first learned when I was in 3rd Grade (kinda young, doncha think?) and we've talked about it in Religion class ever since. They only segregated boys & girls once, in 5th Grade. It's always very awkward.

My mom and dad gave me a book called "Where did I come from?" when I was 5. Then my 1 year younger brother found it. He thought I knew everything. Awkward questions.

Sex education seems very necessary to be done in school. We'd all like to probably believe parents would teach their kids what they needed to know but some parents can't even teach their kids simple basic necessities such as learning to prepare a meal for themselves that doesn't require nuking in the microwave for 3 minutes. Some parents are awesome but others lack in any form of either training themselves or care to pass on knowledges to their kids that will let them survive in an adult world.

Sex education teaches a variety of things from suggesting that teens not just jump into the sack with someone, noticing if someone has an STD early on with the warning signs that are visible, knowing how to put a condom on so it is done and safe because kids are going to explore sex whether adults like it or not, and how to try to deal with hormones when things get out of control. They also teach the science of what intercourse and pregnancy is instead of just the laymen terms and better comprehension of what teens can expect to go through as they age.

Without sex education, there would be girls that would start bleeding and not know why and freak out because parents didn't explain what a menstruation cycle was. Without sex education, some male or female touching a teen or younger person would not be comprehended by the person so soon that it is a sexual advance and they might get caught in a situation they really will regret. Without sex education, teens are going to explore sex on their own and not have protection and more teens would get pregnant and more STDs would be floating around while adults believe their precious religious kid is doing abstinence and oops. Without sex education teens would learn of sex only from friends and maybe they'll get lucky and some adult will teach them, but do you want a bunch of horny teens that haven't had sex yet telling your son or daughter all about it? Do people want pornos teaching people all the ins and outs of sex? Do you want crappy romance novels instructing them on how women have to be nearly raped to want to have sex and then they'll get into it?

The options here seem lame and limited. Some parents are totally terrific and would do an awesome job teaching their kids. Most however either don't have time or are too embarrassed or simply don't care. Friends are unreliable and don't know crap themselves whether they talk big or not. Forcing abstinence does not work as teens are curious and are going to do things regardless. Saying masturbation is evil won't help either. It's about time seriously that people accepted sex is part of life and teens awaken to this with all the hormonal changes. I'd much rather my kid or kids when I have them learn about sex education safely and accurately than from other sources that are simply not reliable. Of course I'd do my part, but I'm also glad the schools are doing their parts too. Sex education FTW.

It is most of the male classmates' favourite lesson <.< I think it is safe to have it in school so that we know what to do during puberty and be prepared for the biggest changes in life.

I think it is also safe as we know not to get near strangers. That's what they teach in my country anyway.Girls and boys go into separate classes.

good point. I mean, alot of parents dont like having the talk... and if they wont tell us, then how are we gonna know? I mean, ny dad doesnt like to discuss...err...'cars' with me, so if it werent for sex ed, i wouldnt have learned anything. And its kinda nice to know whats going on if your body makes that big change, ya know???

I think that sex ed in schools is completely acceptable, as long as the school isn't encouraging sexual activity at a young age. You can really mess up stuff if your body isn't completely developed and you go and have sex. Learning that something can majorly mess up, or result in some blistery STD is useful information. It freaked out a lot of people in my health class, and I think they deserve the shock.

At my school, yes, your parents do have to sign a form saying that you can be taught that, and yes, they do show pictures. No videos, thank God, but some pretty gruesome pictures. No, they don't teach how to put on a condom. In fact, my health teacher's motto during sex ed was "Condoms are crap." And there are many reasons to back that statement up.

Anyway, I don't see any problem with sex ed in schools, as long as it's teaching abstinence until marriage.

    And that's my 2 cents.

I'd like to know why condoms are crap.

Abstinece is like telling kids to "hold it in." Teen pregnancy rates are high. Why? 'Cuz no one will teach kids how to have sex safely. Actually... Teen smoking and drinking is pretty high. Yet, people DO tell them not to! Many teens just DON'T listen.

Besides, marriage is useless now. Why until marriage? 50% get diverced anyway, so it's a waste of time and money. Using religion against me is a bad idea. I'm atheist. The Buy-bull means bubkiss to me. Yeah, it has some good morals (read: New Testiment ONLY. Everything before that is... um... insane?), but it's not perfect (trust me; some stories in the Old Testament would make you go "WTF?!").

Exactly...I can't see why parents wouldn't want their kids to learn about sex in school...since teenage pregnancy rates are higher than they've ever been, and that's all we can keep our mind on anymore.

Yeah, it's kinda weird to be talking about such topics with your health teacher, but suck it up. T_T

I agree, it is quite awkward but I would much rather hear it off someone I don't know- one of the teachers then my parents. I know it sounds crazy...

Yeah. Some parents don't want to tell the kiddies about all this stuff but I was educated before I turned 11 so my parents are very overprotective.

Well, I don't think Catholic school's support Sex, since Jesus never had kids. I think they need to grow up, though. You wouldn't be here if wasn't for you're parents having sex. We all know its disgusting, but seriously, I talk about it with my Cousin and she talks to me about it, since I don't know ANYTHING about it.

Parent's are over-protective. The farthest they go is abuse now an days. Its not going to help kids in any way, if they don't teach them. Especially if you're parents don't. Then when their in their 20's and are ready, they don't do it safe and get aids, because they refused to listen or were never taught.
