I consider myself quite the metal head and I was wondering if anybody on here was. If you are, what's your take on the word, "Screamo?" In my opinion, it's an easy way to explain the genre of music through the word. But it's entirely inaccurate. I consider Screaming to be a vocal style (Like humming or singing) and should be treated as such. The term, "Screamo" really picks at my brain. I guess I could just be crazy or something. Does anyone else have this issue? What's your take on, "Screamo" music?
Avenged Sevenfold still Scream in some stuff, They screamed more in their old stuff, but Their newest album, I thought was a disappointment. The production quality was good but they but less effort into it... I guess that could just be me missing the Rev.:(
It's technically not the right term to use, but I'll usually use it if I'm talking to people who don't listen to the genre and don't know the right terminology. The two biggest genre's in "screamo" that I usually refer to are either post-hardcore or metalcore. If I'm referring to the vocals, I'll usually just say the song has screamed vocals or something along the lines of that.
I'm something of a metal head. Though I'm not that into music to really talk bands that often. And I really don't get genre distinctions, especially inside of metal I feel like there a crapton of different names over minor differences. But yeah I appreciate a good scream in my music, just so long as there is still a song there. I've stumbled across many songs I've had to wonder if was legit or someone making fun of metal in a loundness replaces talent type thing.
It's taken some years for me to realize how technically unskilled and musically unsatisfying "screamo" is. It's a simple formula (Screaming - Girlish Clean Vocals - Forgettable Solo) coupled with annoying styles and personalities and an equally annoying and immature fanbase. I don't mean to sound like some dickish musichead, I'm far from it, but it is what it is. I'm open to almost every genre of music, but if you want something harder sounding you should go ahead and find something with more substance than this entire genre of wannabes.
Many people take this genre seriously. It may seem like the music is simple but it's actually pretty complex when you get down to it. The fanbase being wannabes can apply to just about every genre. Music is expression. There are songs with absolutely no point all genres. Just can't bash a genre cause of some a**hole teenagers.
I'm not big on a lot of screamo, solely for the reason I have trouble understanding what it is they're saying. I have to be able to understand the words to listen to a song. I like it every now and then when i'm with my friends we rock out to some but other than that it's not my preferred choice of music. I do consider it to be a legit genre however, it is in fact music. Everyone has their own taste, it's just a different style of music.
Good on ya. Yea, first of all Screamo IS A SUBGENRE OF HARDCORE PUNK. Death Metal IS NOT SCREAMO JUST BECAUSE THEY SCREAM (ACTUALLY USUALLY IT'S GROWLING BUT WHATEVER). It just pisses me off when everyone calls anything with screaming Screamo when it's not.
When people use the term "screamo" to classify a certain genre of music, I laugh secretly at them. First off, the term "screamo" is no where near a set genre, if anything it would be a branched off selection under Metal. Such as "death metal" "soft metal" and so on. If anything, people should just say that the genre in which a song, or singer screams, also known as false chord for such as the low growls, should just say Metal and end the conversation at that, not argue the fact that the "screamo" genre exists when in speaking of music, it doesn't exist as its own set genre.
I was big into post-hardcore, metalcore and the like (more commonly known through the generalization of "screamo") in middle school and early high school, but as I've gotten older my tastes have matured and I find myself moving away from the style almost entirely. There are some bands in that genre that I still like, such as Fei Comodo, but on the whole I've grown out of it. I still listen to music that has screaming in it occasionally, but I do not like a song that is void of any sort of melodic vocals. If a song (or band) emphasizes screaming over pure singing, I won't like it. I can't really put into word what it feels like to listen to good singing, or maybe I just don't care to take the time to, but suffice it to say that it is without a doubt my favorite thing in music. Take this song for example: This is a song that, were it not for the singing, I would not listen to. The same can be said about the band and perhaps the style of music entirely, but because of the singing, I adore the song. That's not to say that I don't appreciate the music, I do, I just give precedence to the vocals because that is what I enjoy most. Just for reference I will point out my favorite parts to hopefully give a better idea of what I mean. Singing 0:31-0:45 1:35-2:20 3:00-3:30 (good god this part gets me every time) Music 0:39 (the guitar) 3:00-3:33
