RPers never fail to amaze me.

Did I say all of them are bad? No. You're making the assumptions yourself. I said the RP sections need serious help. I also said GX's statement was meritable, meaning it serves to make a point. Making a point serves a different purpose from being factual, because the intention is also different. This is why exaggeration is often used, and when called on it, people respond "I'm making a point".

I'm generalizing the RP section here on KHV as a whole. You can argue that there's at least ONE person here who can RP decently, but that doesn't change the general academic consensus that KHV's RP section overall, as of right now, is garbage. Saying otherwise would just be falling into the person-who argument. That's like saying smoking doesn't give you lung cancer because you knew *one* person who didn't get any ailments of it before they died.

And no, this isn't RPGDreamers, because if it was I wouldn't even be commenting. But saying I shouldn't compare the site in any way to another is ridiculous in my opinion at this point. Your point would be valid *if* the KHV RP section was arguably on an equal footing with RPGDreamers. But it's not. By saying "don't compare our site with another site. We are KHV", you're practically condoning that you like how the RP section is right now and don't want it to change. I didn't reference RPGDreamers as a form of being elitist, in fact, consider it some sound advice. And shunning it just boggles me, especially when it's a site that which can *help* improve the RP section you love so much. I reference RPGDreamers and suddenly you tell me "don't compare us with them, we're KHV". That's like me trying to teach a foreign kid how to speak English because they're trying to speak English, then get dirt thrown in my face saying with the kid saying "I'm not you! I'm me!"(just probably in some crappy grammatical english). Your logic on this is flawed, CtR.

And you know, comparing KHV's media to another site's media is valid. In fact, comparing similar aspects between independent sources is valid; it's a huge chunk of what makes up comparison reviews, and is practically the backbone of comparative essays.

Bottom line:
- I never said all the RPs/RPers on this forum were bad. I said overall/in general/by consensus/etc the RP section needs serious help, because it's crap.

P.S. In all things, there's usually something 'worse', but that's no excuse to stay crappy.

I never said I was happy with how it is, and I do acknowledge that it does need improving, but dragging it down at every opportunity is hardly going to do that, I would prefer it if you didn't speak to me in such a patronizing tone. Yes the RP section needs help, and for the record I wasn't "shunning" your advice. There is always going to be worse yes, and no that isn't an excuse to stay crappy, but on the flip side of that, there is always going to be better too, and as long as there is then KHV RP is going to be kicked down.

Speaking of me making assumptions, you have just made several yourself, you assume I shun your advice and you assume I want that section to stay the way it is, FYI there are currently a lot of plans for the RP section. However I am not going to just let everyone rip the **** out of the RPers and that section just because it is weak at the moment. If it bothers you so badly, then help bring it up to a better standard. I can argue that there are also a hell of a lot more than just "one" good RPer too, there are several, but because of members like Swordser who trashed that section to hell, people can't see past that.

They associate RP with the people like Swordser and they cannot get past that =/

I want that section to get better, hell I have been kicking up a fuss about it since I got made FH, but how the hell am I supposed to drag it back when I constantly see people dragging it down and ripping it to pieces. This site is becoming divided. People who RP are looked down on and I for one am sick of it. This site is a community it should not be divided in that way.

Don't think I am aiming all of this at you, because I am not, and though it means **** to you I actually do have a lot of respect fo you and the things that you say.

Also, it wasn't even an RPer who "de-repped" GX 0_0

Look I will admit, I am very defensive about thay section, but I am working my ****ing as sof trying to bring it back up to scratch and I can only do what I can only do you know. So I appologise for sounding off so much, just it isn't going to be an overnight process, it will take time to recover it from the downer it took.


edit: I agree, it is stupid for me to say don't compare us to another place, and yes I know that is how we improve, but RPGDreamers are way above us, there is not even the slightest comparison IMO​

 

The both of you make very reasonable points about the RP section, but no one can say that it is a section that is up to par. There are a large amount of RPers who do not spell or use proper grammar correctly. The thing is that we see these people and do assume that they are like Swordser. Now the thing about the good RPers who do know how to act in there is that they stay in there alot of the time, while the ones who for the majority do not use good language so to speak come out to other sections and this is where we generalize alot with them. Its not the fact that it is crappy, which reading through some of them they do not seem to impressive. Its the fact that the RPers who make them selfs public and post alot to the point that we notice are those that give alot of them a bad name because they can not spell or are just to lazy about it.

And its true CtR that we do have to compare things like that, it just part of how to scale ourselves. Not to say they are better or not, but to say look they are on that level we are on this level type of thing if that makes sense.

I made an earlier statement that the role-players on this site were an embarrassment and had an attempt made to de-rep me for my opinion. I said they were an embarrassment based on my experience as a role-player who enjoys typing paragraphs as opposed to single sentences.

But based on the examples I have provided...which would you take more seriously?

Some of these people may not have great grammar or spelling :/ I know you all know I cant spell or have correct grammar for my life ._.

How ever, for most of you who have RPed on this forum, or any other one for that matter, that it really isnt about the spelling or grammar. It helps. But its not all about it. The one thing about RPing, is its alot like acting, I know its like that for me. You can let your imagination free and act out someone who can be just like you, or not be anything like you at all. (Great stress reliever BTW) And that does make RPs a bit different from the rest of the forum, but just the fact that some of them have great imaginations and want to focus on that, should not be determined by their spelling and/or grammar.

Ok firstly, I take back the thing about not comparing us, that was stupid on my behalf and I so did n ot think that through.

Secondly, not every RPer is Swordser and it kills me that people assume that. Some of the people who RP don't have English as a first language you know, or would you rather I banned those from foreign languages from RPing?

Also as much as I would love to, and BELIEVE me I would, I cannot impose rules on them about typing actual paragraphs ._. though some of the posts kill me that type of rule is byond me and my powers I think.

The people who are good at RPing don't want to RP because they are concerned about the stigma.
