Return of Kira

"I'm gonna die... Aren't I?" Lana mumbled sadly. Hot tears stinging in her onyx eyes, though she was trying her hardest not to let them fall down her face.

 

"No you are not"

 

"I bet you I am... Be just my rotten luck to die right now..." Lana sighed, the tears slowly winning the battle as a few silently rolled down her pale and sweat droplet covered face.

 

He looked down as he thought of something to say. "I hope you don't. I want you to live."

 

"I want to live too..." Lana laughed weakly "Be so dull being dead..."

 

"At least you got your sense of humor still. That's a good thing"

 

"Have to keep a light heart... Even when it could stop beating any second..."

 

He didn'y say anything for a bit as he looked away. "I'm sorry"

 

"For what?" She asked, biting down on her lip as fought her way up into a sitting postion. As uncomfortable as it was it was still less mind-wrentchingly agonizing as lying down on her back was.

 

"i'm a bad boss. If I were better none of this would of happened"

 

"I knew the risks when I took this job, infact I joined hoping to die... But that's a different story... And you're not a bad boss sir. In fact, you're the opposite. The fact you even care should prove that if nothing else..." Lana said, a weak smile on her pallid face.

 

"Why did you wish to die?"

 

"In my early- to mid-teens I had a lot of different issues... Some that seems rather daft now, but anyway that's not the point. Point is I was seriously depressed most of the time... And when the job offer came up I thought 'Great! Maybe I can achive something, but if not at least I won't have to face being a failure anymore.' But then... Then I met you... Just how you act, everything about you changed me. As werid as that sounds, even at first when I almost hated you for being... well, you. You had this effect on me that made me wonder if well... Life was worth living. And I decided it was. After that I changed, I got more into the job. More into the case, and I found out that I could find out more about the rumoured connections between me and the real L. You know what happened after that, that's when I became your... well.. Babysitter I guess." She explained.

Lana had tried to end the rather pathetic feeling speech on a joke. Even though she didn't feel like laughing, she was scared now she'd said all that. Worried about how he'd take it, she may not of told him the whole story but surely he was smart enough to figure it out.Then again, this was Near she was talking about. Social skills where not his fortay exactly.

 

"I'm glad that I could change your veiw on life. Life is too short...Please don't go back to being like that.... After all I do need a babysitter."

 

"Yeah you do." Lana laughed, grateful that he hadn't picked up on the undertones of her little monolouge there. "Who else is gonna make sure you don't eat Lego and take naps when you need to?"

 

He smiled as he looked at the ground.

 

"You alright sir?" Lana asked, cocking her head and whincing slightly at the pain the simple little movement had caused inside of her.

 

"I'm fine.You should lay back down"

 

"Hurts more if I do." She sighed "Trouble with laying down is it's on my back, and guess where the bullet just so happens to be lodged...."

 

"Then do whats best. Just don't do anything to make it worse and be careful."
