This seems like a very biased article to begin with, but hey, I've always been a supporter for stricter rating enforcement. I don't think they should be arrested, but I think ratings should be enforced more strictly.

Punished, yes. Arrested, no. I mean, you really cant regulate this either. You have no idea if it is happening or not.

Well, yeah this is biased as fuck.

I do agree though, that if parents wish to buy their children adult rated games they should do their bloody research on it, and if they see nothing wrong with it go for it.

Besides, it's not always the parents fault, if a kid wants an R rated game they'll get their hands on it one way or another.

Hmm, I wonder which would have a more detrimental effect on a child - playing a video game that's slightly too mature for them or having a parent sent to jail?

I understand the reasoning behind the parents should be punished but I think being sent to jail is going slightly too far.

Also when a child is mature/old enough for something at least has a certain degree of relativity. It depends on the child as some younger kids are much more mature than some older. In a way the parents are best placed to judge if it is suitable for their child or not, however you do get some parents who don't have a clue.

I agree, this is one of the first thoughts that popped into my head when I read the thread title.

My parents never had trouble buying me M rated games because they knew I could handle it, and they knew that I knew it was just a video game.

Really, it just comes down to parents not educating themselves enough about their children's hobbies and interests. Once they've done that, they could easily assess whether or not their child was responsible enough to handle the contents of the game.

Hmm.... does this mean my brother should be put in jail when he got me The 3rd Birthday when I was 16? 8D
Nah, the people there were cool enough to let me buy it. Parents are the evil doers here not older siblings :P

I do think parents should learn about game ratings when they get their kid a system or when they get a system as a gift. A warning would be nice like the usual "Uhh... is this for your kid? Oh it is? You do know this has (insert content here) right?" not "turn around so I can handcuff you." thats just going a bit too far.

My mother wouldn't let me play Goldeneye because the screen turned red when you died. Whatever happened to those parents?
