Has anyone ever read Phoenix Rising by Karen Hesse ? It's a pretty short novel, and the reading level is pretty low, aimed at young teenagers. But even if you are older, it is definitely worth reading. It's so hard to put down. The story was so beautiful and sad but hopeful as well. I highly recommend it. If you haven't read it yet, please do so. It's wonderful.
