Well, its kind of like the Australian version of the SAT I guess, but its a lot worse. Basically, you pick 5-7 subjects, and study them for 2 years. Then these major exams test you on those subjects over a period of about 4 weeks. The mark you get at the end determines whether or not you get into university, and as my teachers were stressing about before, my future.

See why I'm screwed now? :P

You can, but that kinda means repeating years 11 and 12, and I really don't want to do that

If you don't know what a word means, or using it sounds awkward, do not do it. A common pitfall for students is whipping out a thesaurus and replacing every third word with something they think sounds impressive; it is extremely obvious when you do this. Write in a way that comes naturally (assuming there is an essay component to the test). I assume you won't have access to a thesaurus during the test, but if you suddenly want to use the word perspicacious, it may be better to resist the urge, unless it flows well and fits the situation.

Other essay writing tips I can offer are to plan how you're organizing, be concise, make sure you have a clear thesis, and backup all your claims.

I can't give much more than that as I've not read any of those books. Best of luck though! Don't stress too much.

You shall read hamlet before the exam. That will surely make you sound smart.
