Zane laughed, "No. The boy will have to learn how to get along by himself in a world filled with people like me. I've given him a nudge in the right direction." He ran his hands through her hair, "So, how was your afternoon?"

 

Mya heaved a sigh. Pretty boring. Didn't really do much since you left. She rested her head on his chest.

 

Zane relaxed, "I did tell you to stay low. C'mon Mya, we should search the library for anything on the pieces of Eden." He sighed, "Today's not going to be very eventful."

 

Mya sighed. I hate doing work, but things have to be done. She let go and headed back to the villa.

 

As soon as she left him, Zane heard the distinct sound of a crossbow bolt being pulled back. He didn't have time to turn around. The bolt hit him in the back beside his shoulder blade and he dropped face first into the ground, "Son of a.. What the hell?!" A cloaked figure turned and fled through the woods.

 

Mya ran out, hearing the sound. Zane! Are you alright?! She ran up to him and helped him up.

 

Zane growled and pulled the bolt from his back, it had a note attatched to it. He read aloud, "I'm coming for you. You'll beg at my feet for mercy while your girl watches you bleed out. I won't tell you who I am, but the next time I shoot you, I won't miss..." Zane frowned and looked at the woods, "This can't be right. I haven't done anything yet."

 

Mya frowned and placed a thick pad on his wound.Could it be a Templar? It's possible. But they couldn't know our position. Maybe someone having a grudge against you?

 

Zane shut his eyes, "That could be anyone. And who knows you're my girl? From a distance I'd say it'd look like I was simply giving you a hug. That could mean anything. I hate criptic notes." He stood and kissed Mya deeply, "No one's going to make you watch me suffer. Unless they're already dead."

 

Mya smiled and cuddled against him. They're probably jealous that you actually have one. She started to laugh at the thought.

Havoc walked around town. So far, he threatened to kill any messenger that reprted the assassins "not found."

 

Zane smiled as she laughed, "You're enjoying being my girl aren't you. When was the last time someone called you their girl?"

The archer who'd shot Zane leaned casually against a building as he noticed Havoc walk by, "You'd know where they are if your guards weren't so damn lazy." he remarked as if he's commented on his blade.

 

Mya smiled. Why shouldn't I? You enjoy it right? Not a lot tell me who's girl I am.

Havoc shot a glare at him. I didn't ask for smartass remarks. And they're not lazy. They're afraid that they'll end up like Garth.

 

Zane smiled, "I enjoy it almost as much as I enjoy kissing you." He kissed her again and groaned low in his throat.

The archer pushed off from the wall and followed him, "And what did Garth die for? Information they didn't have? A score he didn't have the right to settle because it didn't exist? Don't kid yourself. Garth was weak. He was killed by two children. A mear 19 year old and a boy who's just reached manhood. Such a disappointment."

 

Mya kissed him back, making a soft purrig sound.

Havoc turned around and faced him. If you think this job is easy, I want to see you do it. By the way, here's some advice: aim forthe head. I have a meeting to attend with the conspirators and other crusaders. Don't miss next time.

 

Zane pulled away with a great deal of will power, "Did you know you purr? I think --" he stopped mid-sentence and blinked several times. His entire body went rigid and he dropped to his knees.

The archer watched Havoc walk away and smiled to himself, "Oh, but I didn't miss. I hit him exactly where I wanted to. I have a game of my own to play, Templar." he tapped his chin and looked up at the sky, "I should say my poison is affecting him very soon now. What a nice little present I gave him."

 

Mya frowned. Zane? What's wrong? She examined him. Could it be...? No! She helped him up. Cmon we got to get you inside!

 

Zane coughed and choked. Pain shreading him from the inside, "Wh-what's happening to...me!" He leaned on Mya as she helped him inside.


The archer wandered around town, pleased with himself. He breathed in the cool air, "It's such a lovely day for a funeral." He walked until he stood beside a plain, undecorated grave, "I'm sorry I couldn't protect you, my love. Soon, we shall be together. First I have unfinished buisness to take care of. Do you remember that poison you gave me from your own plants, in case of emergencies? I'm sorry to have used it on such a pathetic man but he deserved it. He couldn't protect you, instead he got you killed.

 

Mya set him in the medical room on a bed and started rummaging through the cabinet. Just hang in there Zane! Stick with me! She cursed silently and checked another cabinet.

 

Zane squeezed his eyes shut. His heart was racing much too fast. It felt like it would beat right out of his chest. The burning sensation still ravaged him and he gripped the bed tightly. He bared his teeth and hissed, "What is this...!" Feeling began to ebb from him.

 

Mya picked up a vial and ran over to Zane. This should be the neutralizer! She popped off the cap and poured the liquid into Zane's mouth.
