Why do you suppose that the Struggle swords have no effect on nobodies. Come to think of it, does any other weapons have any effect on them? If they don, then y do u think the keyblade is the only thing that works?

Probably because the struggle bats are made for knocking little foam balls off people and not actually doing serious damage, and the nobodies have far to high defense for them to do any real damage.

Or else, it could be because the struggle bat was just data, while the Roxas, the Nobodies, and the Keyblade are real.

The same thing happened to Sora in KH1 on Destiny Island. He had the wooden sword and couldn't put a lick of damage on the heartless until he obtained his keyblade. It might not necessarily need to be a keyblade to have an effect on Nobodies and Heartless, but it sure does need to be a strong weapon.

Hmm, forgot about that. But, well, by that time in Hollow Bastion Sora had already gained so much experience. Perhaps it's a combo of strength that comes from weapon and wielder combined.

I suppose so the abilities he learned with the keyblade are strong so with a toy sword they would be enough to do damage.... plus the magic

...last time I played, I couldn't attack the Heartless with the Wooden Sword in Hollow Bastion.

...maybe because I just left the work to Beast.

Anyway. I assumed that Roxas couldn't hurt the Dusks because well, the Struggle Bat was made out of data. The Dusks were actually real and so was the Keyblade.

He could do some damage with the sword in HB, but that is later in the story when he's become stronger. It still isn't terribly effective, though, and the struggle bats might be made of something even less durable than wood. Plus, I imagine that Nobodies have a little bit higher DEF than heartless.

Well, the wooden sword doesn't do damage in Destiny Islands so you realize that you need a stronger weapon, it works as a plot device. The wooden sword can do damage, but the game doesn't want it to work because then you would just keep on fighting heartless with your half-a** weapon.

As for the struggle sword, it acts with a similar purpose. It allows for an introduction with Roxas' connection with the Keyblade. Not only that, but with the data town. This time around, however, you need to attack the Nobody a certain number of times, as opposed to going somewhere else. Thisis probably because, people didn't know what to do on Destiny Islands once the Heartless came. I remember my sister running around the island for almost an hour before figuring it out XD apparently, my sense of video game logic hadn't developed yet.

I'm pretty sure that's why they don't do damage, for the sake of plot advancement, but as an extra reason, the struggle sword might not work because it is made of data, and does not work on real objects.

Similar to Sora's wooden sword, regular things do not affect heartless or nobodies, yet the keyblade alone specializes in killing them.

the Keyblade holds a special ability that could only kill those.

But this explanation breaks when you notice that there are other weapons that could kill them (i.e. Goofy, Donald, etc.)

So I guess since we're talking about KH is that maybe Sora's heart wasn't pure enough at the time in destiny islands.

Basically, Struggle Bats and well, any of the weapons they used that were not magical in some way do not seem to work on Heartless or Nobodies. They seem resistant to 'mundane' weapons since they aren't essentially in bodies as all other 'life' is. The Heartless are formed from Darkness and the Nobodies are beings that are technically supposed to not really 'exist' so they are going to take special weapons to take them out.

The struggle bats are really data creations while Roxas and the Nobodies are all real things so the Keyblade is the only thing that affects the Nobodies.

Basically what Repliku said! To put shortly, Nobodies are special beings, requiring special weapons to defeat them.

i guess the keyblade is maybe like the bridge between the heartless/nobody world, meaning only it can truly kill them. (i was just guessing)
