Kingdom Hearts II Mini-Boss in LOD

[SPOILER ALERT!!! DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT FINISHED KINGDOM HEARTS II]


i dont know if anyone has posted something like this already, but im a little impatient and dont have the time to look for it, so i will get right down to the point.
In the Land of Dragons, second visit, you find mulan chasing a figure in an enigma (one of the Organization's cloaks). When you reach summit after chasing him for a short while, you face him in combat. when you fight him, his weapon looks a lot like Riku's weapon, the Way of the Dawn, only the length of the blade is slightly different, and the wing at the end is missing. i was wondering if anybody has any ideas as to who it could be. So far, the only people i can think of are Xigbar (because that is who you find in the palace later in that episode, and the hooded figure stands and runs in the same way Xigbar does), Riku(because he uses a similar weapon and uses "Dark Aura", which is an attack Riku can use when in your party in TWTNW), or someone else entirely. My brother and i want to end this squabble.

 

It is Riku, it says so a little later in the game. Sora knows it is Riku, but because right after this battle you go to the palace and you see an org. member (I don't remember who it was), Sora starts to think that it wasn't Riku but it was this org. member. But when you finish some battles the emperor will tell you that a young man came to warn him, and Sora is sure now that it was Riku.

 

thanks. that was my best guess, but a question gnaws at me: why does he fight sora?

 

Oh I don't remember well. I remember that he doesn't want to show his face to Sora because now Riku has the form of Ansem.

 

He fights Sora to test him, of sorts. The weapon he's using isn't Way to the Dawn. It's the Soul Eater. He's been using it since he was taken to Hollow Bastion in KH1. Hope that helped a bit. greenbounce

 

Riku and Sora fought occasionally on the Island. Vaguely showing it was him without words was riku's possible intention.

 

i never played kh1 so idk about wat happened in it.
all i know is that marluxia, larxene, "ansem", vexen, lexaeus, and zexion were all defeated, and that riku was trapped in the ROD. i thought that weapon was soul eater, but i wasnt sure. thanks everybody!

 

Pretty much that is the answer. Riku and Sora often sparred on Destiny Islands and if you look at certain signs of the fight, he does similar actions to include when he 'loses' he shrugs, meaning he didn't take it as a bad thing. That is the same thing he did on Destiny Islands if you won him so it was the clue and why Sora thought it was Riku, other than the fact Riku had obtained Soul Eater in KH1 and Sora had seen him with the weapon.

The Org member in the palace that Sora sees later was Xigbar. Riku, however, had arrived at the palace after running off from Sora, to warn the Emperor of the dragon attack that would come so that people were not outside and around for it. You can see in a cinematic sequence the cloaked Riku going in and getting through the Emperor's guard to speak to him. Later, the Emperor makes a comment to Sora that someone was rude to him but he did give him information on the attack coming. So Sora then once again believes it is Riku, but then confronts Xigbar so confusion commences again.

 

Riku and Sora also fight because Riku doesnt want Sora to see who he really is. (Ansem) which is why Riku must pretend to be an enemy.
