Amy: if we had married our kids would've had very red hair.

    Doctor: The ultimate ginger!

    Need I add more?

Out of the new Doctors (nine, ten, and eleven), Matt Smith is by far my favorite. He was just spot on, somehow hitting the quirkiness of the previous Doctors in a new and fresh way without it being irritating. It's probably due in part to the writing/production changes that seemed to go on when Matt Smith appeared--the show kind of takes a completely new direction--but seasons five and six have been my most enjoyed.

He's good, but I still think David Tennant is the best

He probably is my favorite. But Tennant is definitely a close second. I mean, they both play serious parts so well, but you never saw the 10th doctor yell much. When Matt Smith came on there was so much yelling when he got angry and serious it was just such a change.

I don't know how you couldn't love this

For me it's a very close tie between Tennant and Smith, leaning a tad more toward Smith. At first I didn't like him, mainly because he took away my favorite Doctor at the time, but now I've come to like him just as much as Ten. I only lean more toward Smith because Tennant didn't wear a Fez. 'Cuz Fezzes are cool.

    Yep.

Ten was my first and will always be my favorite; though Eleven is adorkable in his own way, I feel like his years have been more comedic than Nine and Ten. Sure you have episodes like The Pandorica Opens and The Rebel Flesh/The Almost People, but others like The Lodger and Closing Time balance out the drama. With Ten, you had more drama more of the time. In episodes like Human Nature/The Family of Blood, 42, and all of the season finales, it was hardly something to laugh about (although the Christmas specials usually had some laughable moments). To me, it just seems like Ten's years showed us more of the Doctor's angst while Eleven's are about sort of moving on (though he has his stuff like The God Complex to remind us of that immeasurable pain).

tl;dr~Eleven is dorky; Ten is depressed

I agree. I've watched every Doctor Who episode, and generally speaking, I prefer the Russel T. Davies era episodes (Series 1 - End of Time). The newer ones with 11 are certainly good, I won't deny that. But the ones involving 10 are really what I think about when I think Doctor Who.

Same. Though there are episodes from Eleven's reign (Amy's Choice, The God Complex, Rebel Flesh/Almost People, The Lodger, etc.) that I really enjoyed, Moffat has taken the series in a whole other direction. I'm not saying that I don't like it, I'm just saying that it's different.

Another thing I missed from the episodes with 10:

This is some amazing music! I'm sorta disappointed I didn't hear it in the episodes with 11, there were LOTS of moments it could've been used (*cough* Pandorica Opens *cough* The Impossible Astronaut *cough*)

Oh yeah, Tennant's years had some great music, but I really don't see tracks like that working all too much with Eleven's years (except for The Impossible Astronaut, where that would've worked very well). For a new Doctor with a new personality, you need new themes, and Murray Gold has really done a brilliant job with that. There will always be things to be missed when you go from one Doctor to the next, but that's how the show works. The Doctor regenerates and everything about both him and the series changes.

Also, probably should've mentioned this earlier, but 'The Ultimate Ginge' was never mentioned in that first post~

I've love love loved all of the music in the series, regardless of the Doctor. Onwards! is probably my overall favorite, but some from Ten's time were also excellent (Doomsday ahhhh!).
Actually I think that seasons five and six went deeply into some new issues for the Doctor; Ten's angst was based mostly around the Time War and Rose. In the seasons with Matt Smith, though, I think he really began to question am I good. He's touched countless lives and was only trying to do his best, but he's created havoc in so many--particularly with Amy.

I liked also that they cut back on the drama, not to say I didn't love the episodes written by Davies but it gets a bit numbing when there is EMOTIONAL MOMENT in every episode. I think Moffat hit a good balance between drama & humor. Also I cried like a ****ing baby at the end of the Van Gogh episode.

I agree that it wouldn't fit the majority of the 11th Doctor's episodes, but it would've been nice to hear it in an episode or two (like you said, "The Impossible Astronaut" is a great example). By the way, the theme was used for BOTH 9 and 10, which is why I was wondering why wasn't the theme used (even for just a little bit) for 11.

Let's not forget the one that brings us all into that terrible glass case of emotion.

True enough. Though the issue of messing up lives as much as he saves them is also touched upon in Ten's seasons (as brief as it may be Voyage of the Damned is one of the best examples of this). There's also The Waters of Mars, which brings up one of the big issues of meddling with a person's fate, regardless of how good or bad your intentions may be (this was also touched upon in Eccleston's year with Father's Day, Series Four in Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead and with Smith in The Impossible Astronaut and The Wedding of River Song, though in the former Smith's, it was only touched upon briefly). I'll admit, he did make quite an impact in Amy's life, be it for better or worse, but when you think about it, there was no way to avoid it. Especially considering
the crack in her wall that was caused by the TARDIS exploding. Besides, she's made just as much of an impact in his life (especially given the fact that she's his mother-in-law).

Yeah, Vincent and the Doctor was really touching. I watched it again on Friday and remembered just how subjective the definition of good and evil can be, especially when you think about all of his endeavors and all of the things he's done to other people, be they "good" or "bad". In the end, it's all about how you view everything around you (and this is shown in one of the Meanwhile in the TARDIS additional scenes that are in the Series Five box set; link).

Oh god. The Van Gogh episode is filling onions man! Especially when The wedding was considered in the ending (quote that started this thread)

Well, Davies was in charge of both Nine and Ten, so, in a way, I suppose Moffat could be to blame (for yet another thing). Still, recycling old themes might've seemed like laziness to some, and that could've also contributed.

You still forgot to mention the ultimate ginge.

That's not what I meant. After he says the ultimate ginger, Amy says the ultimate ginge and they both laugh. There's a distinction.
