Because they make a claim to their identity based on a series that they like. "I am a Trekkie," instead of, "I like Star Trek."

    Yeah so?

What about the people don't watch the shows and call fans by those terms (which there are a lot of)?

Then that is like any label. They might as well call emotional kids "emo" or kids who wear black "goths" at that point. It does not matter to me so long as the ones who get called that do not take it on as a part of their identity.

I fail to see how it is anyway a problem. Maybe it's because I'm an idiot but it just really seems so minor a problem to really get bothered by.

It wouldn't be so annoying if it didn't result in multiple threads about the subject.

Ah, that makes sense. That would get annoying after a while.

If there were a nickname for a Kingdom Hearts fan, I wouldn't mind being called it. Just saying.

You would if people made threads calling themselves that that make fans of the series look bad.

Oh yeah, but there are always people who make other people with similar interests look bad, y'know? I'd just make sure people didn't associate me with them, and if they did do that, than they're not worth my time.

I guess you haven't had much experience with the problem. Being a part of several fandoms with names, it can get very annoying when they group all of you together. For instance, in the MLP fandom, the people who want to fuck the ponies and the people who find them adorable are grouped together, and as usual, the bad thing is the one that people remember.

Sorry bro :< Thats just how presumptuous people are. I'm just glad I'm able to avoid people who would criticize my interests like that.

Though, on a personal note, I really hate when people turn my favorite characters, from movies and games and books, into ponies...maybe its just me, but it almost like, undermines the characters? I dunno how to explain it better.

PS. I have watched like, one episode of the show. It was ok, and I loved the animation. Not my thing of course, but I've no problem with it.

Eh, that doesn't bother me much. It is like any other dress-up type game; people will always try to recreate their favorite characters if they can.

Yeah, because this wasn't going to piss anyone off at all, was it OP?

I (and a very large portion of bronies) don't act like that. I am sick of all this bullshit misrepresentation, that guy is NOT representative of MLP fans in general. Neither are the people who fap to it, and neither are the annoying ones who spam links to pony stuff everywhere. I can understand why people can be annoyed by that, but those people ARE NOT THE MAJORITY OF THE FANDOM.

And really, its not like he's hurting anyone, weird as he is. So as someone who until very recently had a sister who suffered from numerous things, autism being one of them, I don't appreciate the casual insult of 'autistic' to a weird but otherwise nice guy.

And what is with the aversion I'm seeing in the comments to the word 'brony'? Its just a name, you guys are reading too much into it. I am a fan of MLP outside the target demographic, hence I am quite happy to be known as a brony. I am a fan of Doctor Who, so I am happy to be called a Whovian. I don't watch Star Trek, but if I did, I wouldn't mind being called a Trekkie. If you don't want to be called those things then thats cool, but don't tell me what I should or should not decide to label myself as and say I'm ridiculous for calling myself that.

Please read the thread for answers to these questions.

You are happy to be called one, that is what makes you find it fine. I dislike labels as a rule. I am Makaze and I cannot be categorized along with other fans of a series, people who wear the same clothes as me, or people who do the same things as me. Do not underestimate the kind of limits that labeling yourself and others places on how you feel about them. Labels are the greatest factor in creating bias.

I thought it was really nice that some guy swapped with him. xD

I didn't watch all of it (Stopped when he said he was gonna re-enact a scene) but the internet is such a cruel place. If he wants to play with ponies that fine. He's not harming anyone.

    lol, this thread.
I could care less if this guy cut his own penis off let alone if he's being a ******.
That doesn't mean I can't have an opinion on the way he acts in public and highly disapprove of it, just like the general response to someone wearing lime green to a funeral is "What the **** is that guy doing?".

Plus Bronies tend to be very obnoxious and vocal about their love for MLP in the first place. And just because your 4 friends aren't like that doesn't mean most aren't.
And if you don't consider yourself a brony then you should have no problem

I still don't see the big deal with fans of MLP: FIM calling themselves "bronies". Its not like it matters in the slightest.

I don't care what people call themselves, its how they act that can be obnoxious and annoying. Not all fans are like that though, obviously.
