Namine suddenly felt weak, exhausted from everything that happened. Emotionally, she was a little better than before, but she was still in the process of coping with all this. Physically, she was weakend as well; she hadn't done much moving in the past hours, both because of sleep, and before that...being tied to a pole. She remembered now that she had marks on her face, and she was sure her wrists were bruised as well. She shut her eyes a bit more tightly, that thought saddening her.

 

One thought that Roxas happened to focus on, though, was one of a few that bothered him the most; Namine figuring she was a burden to him. Gosh, that could never happen... Ever. He loved her with all he had--with his heart, his soul...his being. Namine would never be such a thing. Did Smith convince her of that too? Roxas lowered his head slightly, Namine's hair touching his cheek. "You are not and never will be a burden to me," he said softly, honesty heavy in his voice. "I promise you that."

 

Namine exhaled silently, taking in Roxas' words. Actually, that was hard to believe. She got into so many bad situations, and she could never get herself out. She couldn't see how she wasn't a burden. But then again...when you loved someone, you always did what you could to help them. Is that how Roxas saw things? That was the only way she could think of. "I'll try to believe that," Namine said softly in response, opening her eyes partway to gaze at the floor. "It just bothers me that you get into so many bad situations because I can't seem to protect myself..." Namine bit her lip lightly, not completing that thought.

 

Roxas exhaled a breath and closed his eyes for a second. "I understand..." he started, opening his eyes again and gazing at the floor behind Namine. "Earlier, right when I found out that Sora had stepped in for me during my little...timeout," he continued softly, the subject touchy, "I felt the same way; I didn't want to see someone who was like a brother to me get in harm's way because of me..." Roxas's eyes went back to Namine again. "But I guess it's harder for you...right?" Roxas asked, since his and Namine's relationship was different, and stronger.

 

Namine nodded faintly against Roxas' chest, her gaze staying down. Sora and Roxas did have a very strong bond, but the one that Namine and Roxas shared was even more powerful. It really hurt her, knowing how often he put himself in the line of fire for her sake. She wasn't able to defend herself at all lately, and though she knew she could always depend on Roxas, she didn't want him to have that kind of pressure. He shouldn't have to worry about her all the time, but the way things were going, he was worrying about her. Almost all the time.

 

Roxas pressed his lips together, that small nod comfirming his question. "Listen, Namine," he started softly, his azure eyes gazing at her blonde hair, her face out of view, "I love you and I want to keep you safe at all costs; that's what guardian angels do." He pressed his lips together for a second. "But if you're willing to learn some self-defense, I'll teach you. I just don't want to see you down because of this..." It was true; he really didn't want to see her so down about being protected. Roxas felt like it was his duty, a duty he would never get tired of because it involved Namine, the girl he loved with all he had. Although, if she was uncertain about it, he would do what he could to make sure she wasn't anymore.

 

Namine felt a weak smile appear on her lips, the girl appreciating Roxas' words. She understood that he didn't mind protecting her. But this wasn't just about him...she needed to be a little bit less vulnerable for herself. That would help solve things in her eyes, though she would always call Roxas her guardian angel. "I would like that," Namine said softly, bringing her head off of Roxas' chest slightly as she looked up at him. "But you'll always be my guardian angel," she said with a soft smile, that smile being the first one she wore in a very long time.

 

Roxas's eyes met Namine's and caught her smile, one coming to his own lips in reaction. And that smile also appeared because of her words. He loved being called her guardian angel; it made him know he had a purpose in this world. Namine was his purpose, not only protecting her but also loving her. He had told Smith that, and had spoken it from the heart.

 

Namine held Roxas' gaze, something she hadn't done in a very long time. She saw some of the heaviness being lifted, probably because she called him her guardian angel. That always made him smile. Now that he did have a smile on his lips, Namine wanted to keep it there. "...Because you're the best guardian angel I could ever hope for," she said softly, a gentle smile on her lips as she added that little tid-bit into the conversation.

 

One shy chuckle escaped Roxas's lips at Namine's words, the boy letting his gaze fall from hers from being timid. But then he let his eyes find her again, his bright blue orbs meeting her calm sky-blue. The smile tugged at his lips, and he gave in. "Thanks," he said softly. "That means a lot...coming from you." He blinked once, the shyness slipping away from him as he gazed into Namine's eyes.

 

Namine smiled softly, noticing how Roxas got shy from her words. He always seemed to have that reaction, and Namine thought it was absolutely adorable. "You're welcome," she responded quietly, a gentle smile still on her lips as she gazed up at Roxas.

 

Roxas's smile grew faintly, both at the moment and how weight started to lift from his shoulders. Without thought, he leaned his head down and forward, his lips coming in contact with Namine's again.

 

Namine felt a small pang of happiness when Roxas' lips met hers, and she closed her eyes without thought, lightly kissing Roxas back with the same gentleness he was kissing her with.

 

Roxas kissed Namine lightly for a moment, feeling her kissing him back. That sent happiness through him, and he felt a smile pulling at the corners of his lips. After a brief moment, Roxas gently separated his lips from Namine's and gave in, a small smile returning to his face.

 

Namine felt Roxas gently pull away, and she let him, lowering her head slightly as she kept her eyes closed. A faint laugh left her, and it surprised even her. She didn't know where the laugh had come from, or why. But no matter what the reason, it was out in the open now.

 

The smile on Roxas's lips grew slightly at the small laugh of Namine's, the boy's eyes opening and immediately finding her. He gently pressed his hand on her upper back, pulling her a little closer as he leaned his head down and let his forehead touch hers. Roxas's eyes closed and a soft sigh of comfort left him without thought.

 

Namine felt herself smile faintly, hearing Roxas' soft sigh. Gosh, he seemed so much more content now. It seemed as if she had made a positive difference, even after everything that had happened not too long ago. Without thought, she brought her hands back to her side. Then, she gently lifted them up, lightly wrapping them around Roxas' neck.

 

Roxas felt a small smile form again, the boy starting to feel at peace again in this moment. He thought that a small moment like this wouldn't come for a while after everything that happened earlier. But, sometimes unexpected things came to a person without asking for it, and Roxas was grateful he had this moment, and with the most important person.

 

Namine exhaled silently, staying in that position. Looking back, the mood had changed pretty quickly. She knew the point when she started to feel better, but she didn't know when Roxas had started to feel more comfortable. Well, that didn't matter now, just as long as this peaceful moment lasted.

 

Roxas took in a breath, his forehead still against Namine's as his eyes stayed closed. A few thoughts ran through his mind, but not too many. One of them was what he had said back at the warehouse, something he had meant with all his heart... It was a very important thing he had said, one that was spoken honestly. But that brought in another thought. "Namine?" Roxas said softly, his eyes staying closed as he stayed in that same position.
