"Roxas," Namine started softly, the girl staying turned away from him as she spoke. "I love you. So much. You've always been there for me in any situation, both in good times and bad. You've been so good to me. But I don't deserve your love; I have nothing to offer you." She stopped speaking there, her quiet voice leaving as silence engulfed the room again at that moment.

 

"Yes you do..." Roxas stated softly, his voice sounding a bit weak; it made him feel like a child again, like he was hopeless and afraid. And in this case, he was scared...of losing Namine. He felt as if she were slipping away from him, and the distance between them didn't really help.

 

Namine exhaled silently, feeling tears flood her eyes. Roxas sounded so hurt, and she knew that she was causing him pain. But that was all she was good for now; causing people pain. However, she knew Roxas didn't want to hear that, so she decided to stay silent.

 

Roxas's eyes stayed glued to Namine, even though she was still avoiding his gaze. "I can't believe you haven't realized it yet..." he started slowly, quietly.

 

Namine heard Roxas' soft spoken words, and she wondered what he was talking about. What didn't she realize? Namine shut her eyes for a moment before opening them, looking out in front of her as she waited for Roxas to finish his sentence.

 

Roxas's eyes focused on Namine's form for a second before they flitted to the couch beside him. "I don't think you understand how important you are to me," he continued. "When Smith took you away from me again..." Roxas stopped, shaking his head for a second before he continued. "...I was...heartbroken. To think, the person I thought was already gone from my life took away the person most precious to me..."

 

Namine bit her lip lightly, lowering her gaze again. Roxas certainly did sound heartbroken, here, at this moment. Her heart told her to stop acting so foolish and just hug him, but she restrained herself, waiting for Roxas to finish speaking. She wasn't quite ready to accept his love yet, but her heart was starting to open up again...

 

"Sometimes," Roxas said, lifting his head to look at Namine, "I think that destiny is purposely doing this to us...testing us like this. It brought us together, and I'm forever grateful for that. But..." His eyebrows furrowed slightly as his eyes lowered to the floor in front of him. "Other times it feels like it's trying to rip us apart, too..."

 

Namine nodded faintly, agreeing. Yes, she and Roxas had so many great memories together, and they did seem perfect for each other in a lot of ways. They came together so naturally...but now, it seemed as if they were coming apart as well. Was it only a test? Or was fate telling them that their time together was over? She hoped it was the first; it was hard to imagine life without Roxas...

 

"I just don't understand," Roxas said, speaking his thoughts out loud. "Every time something bad has gotten in our way, we've fought it off; passed the test. But now it feels like we're failing. I'm fighting back, because I want to be with you..." Roxas lifted his eyes to Namine again. "...But are you?" His head cocked to the side slightly as that question hung in the air, concern and worry apparent in his eyes.

 

Namine brought up a hand without thought, lightly setting it on her cheek. It felt as if she had been slapped by Roxas' words. He was trying to figure out what was wrong...though she didn't think she was worth the effort. Wasn't he better off with somebody else? Somebody who actually deserved to be loved? That thought made her feel sick to her stomach, and she didn't want to feel that, especially not on top of everything else she felt. "Roxas..." Namine started softly, her gaze staying down as she spoke his name.

 

Before Namine could finish speaking, Roxas continued, needing to get a few things off his chest. And more importantly, tell her how precious she really was to him. "Namine, don't you see?" he started again. "You mean the world to me. You do deserve my love--more love than I can probably give you." His eyebrows were furrowed over his eyes; not in anger, but in sadness as he confessed his heart out. "It's hard to believe that you think you can't offer me anything, because you offer me more than I ever thought of getting," Roxas admitted softly. "So if destiny wants to keep doing this to us, let it. If you don't fight back...I'll fight for you." His blue eyes were glued to Namine's form, his words hanging in the air.

 

Namine was aware that she was holding her breath, listening to Roxas' words. How could he say that and mean it?! Namine was having so many doubts about everything, but he wasn't letting go! She hadn't expected him to speak like this, or hold onto her as if she were actually worth something. "How can you possibly love me?" Namine excaimed suddenly, turning to face Roxas. "I've lost in faith in everything that was once so clear to me, and yet you're still holding onto me. Why haven't you given up on me? How can you still love me?" Namine kept her eyes on him, tears starting to appear in the rims of her eyes.

 

Why was she saying this?! It was breaking Roxas up inside, hearing Namine doubt their love for each other. He was sure that heartbreak shown on his face, but he fought back, knowing that fate was trying to tear them apart. He wasn't going to let it happen. Ever. "I could never give up on you. I won't! Namine, I do love you. More than you can possibly understand. And I'm not about to give that up, not because of Smith." Without thought or hesitation, Roxas took a few quick strides toward Namine, now standing right in front of her. "Let me prove how much I love you," he said softly, looking down into her eyes. His hands suddenly went to her back and pulled Namine close to him, his lips meeting hers swiftly as he started to kiss her passionately.

 

Namine's eyes widened in surprise, Roxas' lips meeting hers. She instinctively wanted to pull away, startled by the sudden action. But he was holding her too closely; she couldn't move. Kiss him back, her heart told her softly. Her mind made no more comments, saying nothing about Roxas' false love. Now she knew that it was true. More true than any lie Smith had told her. Namine felt tears flood her eyes as she let her eyelids fall shut, the girl finally giving into her desire and kissing Roxas back.

 

Roxas continued to kiss Namine in the same manner, passion and love in the kiss as his eyes were shut. He felt her kissing him back, and it only made him want to hold her closer. His right hand gently pushed against her lower back, not that he could bring her much closer to him anyway.

 

This is real, Namine thought to herself. This love Roxas had for her...it wasn't going to die any time soon. If Roxas was going to leave her, he would have done it by now. And he hadn't. Namine didn't care what Smith said anymore, his word wasn't trustworthy. Instead, she chose to believe in Roxas, and his undying love. Tears started to flow down her cheeks, simply because she was so ashamed that she had doubt their love in the first place. But they were also tears of relief, the girl knowing the truth now.

 

As Roxas kissed Namine and held her close, he felt the urge to never let go, and he wasn't going to anytime soon. Smith was foolish. Roxas and Namine's love was strong enough to prove even his words false. A sense of relief came over Roxas as the moment continued, beginning to sense that Namine was believing him.

 

Namine's lips seperated from Roxas' for a brief moment, and a soft sob escaped her. Before she herself could recognize that it left her lips, she kissed Roxas again, the girl passionate about returning the love Roxas gave her.

 

Roxas tightened his hold around Namine slightly at the sound as the kiss continued, the passion within it becoming equal on both sides. He was very overwhelmed with everything they had just discussed a few seconds ago, and he felt like crying again. But he fought the tears off behind his closed eyelids, focusing on the moment at hand.
