Namine opened her eyes, looking up into Roxas' eyes for a brief moment before lowering her gaze to the couch. "Okay," she answered softly, lying. She was far from okay, and she was sure that showed in her eyes. That was part of the reason why she avoided Roxas' gaze now, though she could sense the worry behind it despite the fact that she wasn't looking at him.

 

Roxas kept his eyes on their hands, his stroking slowing slightly. He should have expected an answer like that; nothing would be good the day after that. It wasn't even really the day after...more like a few hours after. Regardless of it all, Roxas lifted his eyes to Namine's face. The marks from Smith over her skin were becoming more visible, and she was avoiding his gaze. His eyebrows furrowed slightly in both concern and worry, the boy turning his gaze back to their hands. He got an uneasy feeling, but he didn't know if that was from Namine's answer, the aura surrounding them, or the situation in general.

 

"...How about you?" Namine asked softly, her eyes flitting up to Roxas again before she looked down at the couch. The pattern wasn't interesting at all, but she didn't dare look Roxas in the eye; she had noticed his eyes soften the previous night several times, and she knew it was because he saw the expression her eyes had. She didn't want to cause him anymore sadness; the only thing she wanted was...well, she didn't know what. But she wasn't worthy of anything good, she knew that much.

 

Roxas shrugged slightly, blinking once as he continued to look at their hands. His shoulder started to hurt a little from that small movement, but he ignored it. "Not much better than you are," he answered truthfully. There was no point in lying to her; he was sure that his eyes proved that what he was saying was the truth, not only in appearance because of his crying but also in their blue depths.

 

Namine nodded faintly, understanding that Roxas wasn't doing too well just by the tone of his voice and his features. But, he had said the same as her. He obviously wasn't okay, and in all honesty, she wasn't either. Roxas saw through her charade, and she felt foolish that she had tried to hide it from him in the first place.

 

It grew quiet in the living room, and Roxas didn't really know what to say; it seemed...awkward between him and Namine, which rarely ever happened. But he knew there was a good reason for it and one reason he knew alone: Smith. Roxas's stroking of Namine's hand stopped when the name appeared in his mind, thoughts running back to him in a rush and causing him to shake his head slightly. He lowered it a little, his gaze falling on his lap again.

 

Namine exhaled silently, the aura around them heaving and crushing. She didn't know what to say now, and she didn't feel up to speaking anyway. Because of Smith, she wasn't sure what to think anymore, and she had never been so lost and confused before. During other trials and troubles, Roxas had been there through everything. But Smith had attacked their love, and now Namine had doubts. He had broken the foundation of who she was, and it made her want to cry, knowing how messed up she was now. But she kept her tears inside, knowing she didn't want to show her emotions again.

 

Everything had been going great until last night, when he had shown up. Now everything was a big, confusing mess. Scary too, after all that Roxas had experienced within the last couple hours. First he got a very frightening call from Namine, only to hear his voice. And then she got taken away from him, something that had made Roxas fall apart at the get-go. Having Namine in danger...when he could do nothing but follow an "arrangement", it scared Roxas stiff. Namine was so important to him, and sometimes he thought that she didn't realize just how essential she was.

 

Namine blankly looked at the couch, her eyes closed partway. Gosh, she had no idea what to think anymore. No idea at all. Smith had torn apart the most important part of her life, leaving Namine feeling stranded and alone. She didn't like that feeling, but the sorrow in her heart was much worse than any other feeling she had.

 

And then when Sora wouldn't help... That had upset Roxas a lot, knowing that his best friend--who was practically a brother to him--wouldn't help him out to save the girl he loved. But Roxas did have to realize that by saving the girl that he loved, Sora had to sacrifice the life of the girl he was in love with as well. Roxas gently released Namine's hand from his as the thoughts grew stronger, the boy bringing both hands to his head. He suddenly realized how bad of a thing he had done to Sora, and he pressed his lips together to attempt at preventing himself from giving in to his emotions.

 

Namine felt Roxas' hand leave hers and her eyes flitted over to her stomach, seeing her hand by itself. Red marks appeared on her wrists, and she knew without a doubt that marks appeared on her face as well. She bit her lip lightly, tears threatening to reappear at the memories. She set one hand on the couch and started to push herself up, though pain came from her wrist because of the pressure on it. Her head also started pounding, a headache starting up again now that she was concious.

 

Roxas didn't move when he caught onto Namine's movement, the boy too wrapped up in his thoughts. Now that he really pondered over what he had done, Roxas realized that he was a rotten friend...to take his best friend's love away behind his back. He shut his eyes, exhaling a soft breath. Everything was such a whole lot of trouble, and somehow it all revolved around him. Smith was out for revenge, and so he took the dearest thing to Roxas; Roxas took away his best friend's lover to get back the girl most important to him; Namine was abused because of Smith's grudge against him; Sora was injured because Roxas couldn't handle Smith on his own... Gosh, it was as if someone was out to get Roxas! And he didn't even do anything!

 

Namine finished pushing herself up, sitting with her legs still on the couch. She brought up her knees, pulling her legs close. She wrapped her arms around them without thought before lowering her head, letting it rest on her knees. Yesterday she had been in a smiliar position, only her hands had been tied behind her back. For hours. Namine exhaled heavily through her nose, though the breath came out silent. She was definitly feeling sore from that, but she didn't feel it was right to point that out to Roxas; not after how much he had gone through for her sake.

 

Roxas's fingers suddenly curled, gripping at his blond spikes. He was so glad that Smith was finally gone. That good-for-nothing...evil...sick creep, Roxas thought angrily. He was in Oblivion, where he belonged. And Roxas was relieved that he was never going to bother them again. Nothing would be this bad because of him ever again.

 

Namine turned her head, her cheek resting on her knees. She wanted to wince when her cheek came in contract with the fabric of her jeans, that spot hurting because of--Namine stopped her thoughts there, not wantint to think about it. She inhaled softly before releasing it, her eyes closing. The sun shone on her form, warming her back as she faced away from the window.

 

Roxas took in a breath and then exhaled it through his mouth, calming himself. Smith was gone; Roxas didn't have to worry about him ever again. His fingers loosened at the thought, and he felt his form relax slightly. But he didn't loosen up completely, the aura still thick with tension around him.

 

Though the warm sun shone on her, Namine's heart felt cold. So very cold. The emptiness inside her scared her greatly. But that wasn't the only thing that frightened her; she was afraid for the future. Before this happened, she thought she had everything figured out; things were perfect with Roxas. But now, everything had suddenly changed, making her leave frightened and alone and broken.

 

Roxas let his hands leave his head as he lifted his gaze, his eyes immediately falling on Namine's form. His eyes didn't burn anymore, like before, and he hoped that the redness in them was gone. Despite that, he took in Namine's posture and tried to read her expression, though he didn't really need to.

 

Namine exhaled silently, her eyes still closed as her face was in the opposite direction of Roxas. Gosh, what was she supposed to do now? Just pick herself up and keep going on in life? It was hard to imagine ever living the same way again. Impossible to imagine, really. So much had changed in such a short amount of time. Things had happened quickly before, but nothing as drastic or as horrible as this.

 

Roxas scratched his head as he lowered his gaze. Namine was turned away from him, which meant that he couldn't see what was wrong by just looking at her. He lifted his gaze back to her, his eyebrows furrowing slightly in concern as he brought his hand down from his head and back to the couch, next to his other hand. "What's wrong?" he asked without thought, concern and worry in his voice. Roxas immediately regretted even asking; it was a stupid question. There were a million things wrong.
