Sora nodded faintly, lowering his gaze to the floor again. Kairi's response wasn't too great, and he wouldn't be surprised to find out if she was upset with him. But someday, maybe she'd understand why he was being so protective over her. Life without her would be meaningless, and he wanted to do everything possible to keep her with him.

 

Kairi let her hand run up Sora's back and over the fabric of his shirt one more time before she took her hand back. She let her hand go under Sora's arm closest to her and she placed her hand on the other side of his upper arm, leaning her head against his shoulder as she sat next to him. It was already pretty late, but she wasn't sure what time it actually was. Regardless, she would be leaving soon...with Roxas, to help Namine. She had to do it; she couldn't stand by and let her best friend be the bait for something that involved Kairi. No matter what Sora said to her, she knew what she had to do.

 

Sora looked down at the girl in his arms, wrapping an arm around her and bringing her a little closer to him. This situation was tough, and in a way, he felt as if he had it the easiest. He was the only one not directly involved in everything, though he had prevented Kairi from getting involved. He exhaled softly in frustration, shutting his eyes again. He actually was getting tired, both from stress and normal exhaustion. But he ws going to hold onto Kairi as long as he could, since life was so very, very precious.

 

Kairi snuggled closer to Sora, staring blankly at the floor once she was settled and comfortable in his arms. She heard his sigh, and she could only guess that it was because of what just happened. She understood...in a way. The argument between Sora and Roxas had been pretty heated, and uncomfortable, since it was about her.

 

Sora turned his gaze to the wall in front of him, staring blankly at it. Well, there was nothing he could do about it now. He'd talk to Roxas about it someday, but he doubt his friend wanted to see or hear Sora right now.

Kairi lifted her gaze to the boy who held her, pressing her lips together for a brief moment. She was sure it was pretty apparent she was staying with him tonight...well, most of the night. She would have to leave early in the morning...so she could help save Namine from Smith. Just the thought scared her a little, the girl remembering how frightening that man was. She lowered her eyes again, not really wanting to think about that. She had to be brave, for both her, Roxas, and Namine's sake.

Sora gently started running a hand over Kairi's arm, his eyes staying on the wall. He recognized Kairi's sadness, and he felt it as well in his own heart. Namine was a great friend of his, and he desperatly wished he could help, but again, Roxas had only given him that one choice, and there was no way Sora could willingly let that happen. He had come close to losing Kairi before, and now he was too protective to let her get that close to danger again.

 

Kairi bit her lip, trying to stop that fear from arising within her. She was scared for Namine, incredibly scared. And she was also scared to how things were going to turn out. If she was thinking correctly, Roxas understood the expression in her eyes and the words she had spoken. Would he come for her later...? So they could help rescue Namine? Kairi exhaled through her mouth in slight disbelief. Namine was in trouble because Smith wanted her, and Kairi was definitely not okay with that. Namine was her best friend, and because of that, she felt she had to help rescue her.

 

"Would you like to get some sleep now?" Sora asked softly, shifting his gaze from the wall to Kairi. Though they hadn't done much during the day, Sora now noticed that she appeared to be tired. Also, he remembered that she had started to doze off toward the end of the movie. So it made sense to him that she would still feel a little tired right now as well.

 

Kairi lifted her eyes to Sora, meeting his ocean-blue eyes. She blinked once, not really knowing how to answer that question. She was tired, and sleep sounded good to her, but at the same time... What if this was the last time she saw Sora? Knowing what she was about to do, she didn't really want to leave his side, in fear that once Smith got what he wanted, she would never see Sora again. But Kairi definitely didn't want Sora worrying about her while she was still with him, so she would go ahead and go to bed. "Yeah, I guess," she answered softly.

 

"Okay," Sora said softly, looking down at the girl in his arms for a few moments. Something about her tone sounded off to him, but he figured that she was simply worried about their friends. Sora was worried too, of course, but he was starting to accept that Roxas would find a way to get Namine free anyway. It was a feeling that he had in his heart, and he didn't know whether it was correct or not. Still though, he hoped for the best. He leaned his head over and down, giving Kairi a light kiss on the head before pulling away.

 

Kairi felt the corners of her lips turn up slightly into a small smile at the gesture, the girl blinking slowly once before she met Sora's eyes again. She realized how tough of a decision it was for him to make; either saving Namine while putting Kairi at risk, or keeping her safe while the blonde was still in danger. It was a very hard decision to make, she knew, and that was probably why both Sora and Roxas were upset. But...was Kairi making the right decision herself?

 

Sora weakly returned Kairi's smile, his gaze staying on her eyes. He silently removed his arm from around her, knowing that it had to be done for her to go to her own bed. He lightly set that hand on her back, gently going over the back of her shirt one time before letting his hand stay still.

 

Kairi exhaled silently as her smile faded, the girl turning her eyes to her lap as she slowly pushed herself from the bed.

 

Sora gently let his hand slide off Kairi's back as the girl stood up. His gaze stayed on her as he watched in silence, aware of the aura of sadness that hung around her.

 

Kairi stood up straight, realization hitting her as she took a step toward the door. This was it...her last moment with Sora before she left. And there was a possibility she wouldn't come back. She stopped, turning slightly to meet Sora's eyes again. "Sora?" The violet-blue hues of her eyes met the ocean-blue of Sora's.

 

Sora lifted his head slightly at the sound of his name, his eyes meeting Kairi's violet-blue orbs again. "Yeah?"

 

Kairi lowered her gaze for a second as she bit her lip briefly before she stopped, looking back at Sora again. Without any thought, she stepped toward him and stood right in front of him, bending over slightly as her hands found either side of his face. Her actions operating faster than her thoughts, Kairi brought her lips to Sora's in a passionate kiss, her eyes closing.

 

Sora felt confused the moment Kairi turned around and stood in front of him, and then his confusion was transformed into surprise when Kairi suddenly kissed him deeply. Though he didn't know why she was kissing him so passionatley, he wasn't about to argue against it. He shut his eyes as he leaned forward, kissing Kairi back.

 

Kairi kept her hands where they were, continuing the kiss without letting any of the passion vanish. Truth be told, she was afraid--afraid she would lose Sora, afraid for her own life, afraid that they wouldn't save Namine in time... But she forced that fright aside as she kissed Sora deeply and focused on the love she held for him. In case this was the last time she saw him, and something happened to her because of Smith, she wanted this kiss to be memorable...not only for her, but for Sora as well.
