    I sense a pattern here.

    Obviously, the Kira likes to wait until the person has almost figured out the case, then strikes, destroying most hope of finding the Kira. It's a simple strategy, but it may work.

    This strategy is bound to fail anyway.

    I suspect he was. There are a number of scenarios that could have happened between the Kira. I shall state one for example:

    The Kira needs to hand the Death Note to another person
    The Kira sees potential in Dalk
    The Kira PMs Dalk about it
    Dalk is about to say who it is
    The Kira notices, and kills Dalk.

    It ties in with the youtube videos posted by Dalk himself.
