Kairi ended up falling to her knees with Sora. "Sora? Oh, my God. Are you okay?" she asked. "I wasn't holding onto you tight enough. I'm sorry."

Roxas nodded with a smile and desummoned his Keyblades.

 

Sora looked up at her with sad blue eyes. It hadn't been her fault; he was too beat up to do anything. He was lucky he had made it that far. He shut his eyes and let his body lay down on the street.

 

Kairi was confused. Had he given up? What was wrong? "Sora," she started, leaning down so her face was in front of his. "C'mon, talk to me."

 

"I don't think I'm going to make it." Sora said softly, not looking Kairi in the eye.

 

Her eyes softened. "Don't say that. Remember how you gave up back there with all of those Heartless on you? You didn't give up then. So please don't give up now..." She put her hand on his gloved hand supportively.

 

"It hurts so bad." Sora couldn't look her in the eye.

 

Riku went back to McDonalds, not wanting to walk all the way to his apartment at this time. With a yawn, he cleared the counter of everything on it, then laid down, using a sack of potatoes as his pillow. Finally, after such a long day, he could get some sleep.

Xigbar had his own secret room in Burger King that no one was aware of. The portal lead him into the room. Inside was a large bed, a desk, an alarm clock, and a TV. He laid down on the bed and soon fell asleep.

 

"I know, Sora. I know." She squeezed his hand. "Trust me, if there was anything I could do to make it stop, I would. But we have to get you to the hospital. It's just a block or two away. You can make it."

 

Sora grunted and tried get himself off the ground. He was on his knees now. So far so good...

 

"There you go. Come on," she encouraged, bending down so he could wrap his arm around her shoulder.

 

Sora put his arm around her shoulder, even though he was trying to support himself completely. He didn't even know if she was hurt in the battle. The sooner they got to the hospital the better.

 

Kairi winced. The cut in her stomach was still stinging. She ignored it. Sora was the one in trouble here and in need. She supported him the same way she did before, gripping his hand and wrapping an arm around his waist as they started to get on the sidewalk.

 

Sora looked down as they walked. Each step he took was one step closer to relief. So he kept walking, hoping that his misery would end soon.

 

Kairi was happy that Sora was being strong. They were only a street away from the hospital after a few minutes of walking, and she squeezed his hand next to her face. "Almost there."

 

Sora nodded slightly and grabbed her a little tighter. Soon he could collapse. Soon it would be over.

 

As Kairi approached the crosswalk onto the other street, some man ran up to her.

"Oh my! Are you all right?" he asked.

Kairi nodded.

"Here, let me help you there."

"No, I've got him," she said.

He reached to help. "No, I insist--"

"I said I've got him," Kairi said firmly, walking past the man, instinctively gripping Sora tighter. She was sure that the man had seen Sora's and her state, and their appearance, but she didn't need his pity. She was handling it just fine on her own.

 

Sora began to drag his feet a little. He winced when Kairi grabbed him tighter. Since when had she been the strong one? Sora shook his head a little. It didn't matter now. All he wanted to do was lay down and sleep and not wake up until everything was back to normal.

 

"Sorry," Kairi said. She'd heard him wince, but kept on going. They were twenty feet in front of the entrance now.

 

Sora looked up and saw the hospital entrance. He was almost there. Hopefully he could find the strength to get there.

 

"Stay with me, Sora." Kairi was just a few feet in front of the door. She looked into the hospital; a nurse was busy writing on her clipboard. She didn't see them. Kairi readjusted, propping Sora up a bit. The doors slid open, and she walked inside with Sora against her. The lights burned her eyes, and she had to squint.
