Sora gasped and bolt upright in his bed, his heart rate faster than usual. It was strange...it felt as if he had just had a nightmare, but he couldn't remember it. He groaned softly and put a hand to his head, trying to make the room stop spinning.

 

A small smile appeared on Kairi's lips as she continued dreaming, Sora's ring still on her finger.

 

Sora angrilly curled his hand into a fist and hit the bed. He couldn't take it anymore! He hated this place so, so much. It was driving him insane! He just needed one moment of peace...just one! Was that so much to ask? He didn't think so. His body trembled with adrenaline and rage.

 

Kairi and Roxas' heart monitors beat at regular intervals as they slept soundly.

 

"Gah," Sora gasped softly, letting his hand come out of its fist. He looked around the room and was thankful to see that Kairi and Roxas were asleep. He would hate for either of them to see him like this. He slowly turned over on his stomach, ignoring all his pain as he burried his head in his pillow, his crying muffled.

 

Kairi tucked an arm under her pillow and sighed softly, getting the many hours of rest she had avoided now.

 

Why?! Why did he have to go through all this pain? It wasn't fair at all! For him, or his friends. His crying continued as the sobs ripped at his chest, making it feel as if his wounds were on fire. He turned his head on his pillow and faced the window, needing air. One loud hiccup escaped his mouth before he bit his lip very hard.

 

Roxas took in a deep breath and released it slowly through his nose, sleeping soundly for the umpteenth time.

 

Sora stayed on his stomach as he burried his head in his pillow again, falling into a fitful slumber.

Kairi opened her eyes slowly, blinking as she awoke from her deep sleep. Wait a second. She'd fallen asleep without any nightmare? She sat up suddenly, looking around the hospital room. Sora and Roxas were still asleep, and the sun wasn't in view anymore. It had to have been some time in the afternoon. How long had she slept then? Kairi ran a hand through her red hair as she shook the thought away. And then she felt something on her finger, and looked at her hand.

 

Sora's hand rest by his head on the pillow, curled into a tight fist.

 

The loose ring laid on her finger as Kairi looked at it. Sora's ring. She smiled and then turned around, adjusting her pillows so she could sit up for a little while. She leaned back against them as she sat upright, her eyes finding the ring again. She slid it off her finger and held it. Kairi looked at the design again, and then turned the ring slowly as she read the beautifully engraved words "Forever and A Day" on the inside of the silver band. Kairi smiled softly as her mind traveled back to that moment.

 

"So, are you going to do it or not?" Roxas teased Sora, looking at him with piercing blue eyes. The blonde had just made it pretty far up the tree in the park, and Sora had said he could do better.

Sora smirked. "Of course I am." He put on hand on the lowest branch and lift himself up. "You'll see that I'm just a better climber!"

Roxas laughed and looked up at him. "Yeah, okay. Those are tough words for a guy whose only a few feet off the ground!" He laughed and smiled at Sora.

Sora was bothered by Roxas' cockiness, but he didn't let it show. He smiled and down at his friend before starting to climb higher into the tree.

"Careful, Sora!" He heard Kairi's loving voice call from below.

"I will." Sora promised as he grabbed onto another branch and kept climbing up the tall tree.

 

Kairi let herself drift off to that moment again, her eyes staring blankly down at the ring as it went through her mind.

 

Sora was about 3/4 of the way up the tree when he heard laughter on the ground below him. He let his eyes gaze down and let them fall on Roxas and Kairi. "What's so funny?" Sora yelled down, tightly grabbing a branch with his hand.

"Nothing," Kairi said through her giggles, giving Roxas a sneaky smile. The blonde returned one, making Sora more confused.

"It doesn't seem like nothing!" Sora called back down, only to be greeted by more laughter. He shrugged and softly shook his head as he continued climbing. Whatever it was, he would beat it out of Roxas after he beat his challenge.

 

Kairi smiled softly as she reminisced.

Kairi and Sora leaned their foreheads together after they kissed, both of them in comfort. Kairi stroked Sora's cheek with her thumb for a moment, until Sora moved his hand from the back of her head to her hand on his cheek.

"I love you so much," Sora said softly, his thumb stroking Kairi's hand against his cheek.

Kairi smiled slightly. "I love you too," she whispered.

As Kairi's eyes stayed closed, she felt Sora's lips meet hers in a light kiss.

 

"Told you I could do it!" Sora shouted as he laughed at Roxas. He had made it almost 10 feet further than the blonde, and now it was time to rub it in his face.

Roxas' loud laughter could be heard even at the top of the tree. "Okay, now let's see you get down, hotshot!"

"No problem." Sora grinned and looked down, and then actually felt a small wave of panic. That was a long way to the ground. If he made just one mistake, it would be very dangerous. He took in a breath and watching his feet as he silently started climbing down the tree.

"Whoa," he gasped softly a few seconds later, his feet slipping off a branch. He quickly reached up to a branch with both hands and held on tight. Even though he couldn't see or hear them, he knew that Kairi and Roxas were staring up at him, probably noticing his slip-up.

 

That had been the moment after they'd given each other their gifts. Kairi smiled at the memory, her teeth revealed slightly. That had been a really happy moment in both of their lives, and Kairi'd give anything to go back. She loved Sora so much. She'd do anything to make him happy.

 

Sora slowly took in a breath. Panicking was not going to do him any good. In fact, it would make everything worse. He swung his legs and got them back onto a branch, slowly loosening his grip with his hands. He watched his feet as he made his way down the tree.

When he was almost half way down the tree, he held onto a thin branch. Just as he was about to move, he felt it snap. He let out a gasp and fell backwards, unable to get a grip on anything with his hands. He let out a short cry and reached for something--anything, to catch his fall. His body hit a few branches, but they only slowed down his fall. He fell on the ground with a loud thud, his head banging off the grassy earth. He opened his eyes for a moment and saw Kairi, Roxas and Namine standing over him, but they were all blurry. And then everything went black.

 

Kairi glanced over Sora's way, her smile still on her lips. He was still asleep. Maybe she should give the ring back to him now that she was awake.
