KH- Fast Food Madness!

Sora looked up at her. Should she really be calling him Sora now? He was hardly the same boy he was a few weeks ago.

 

Kairi turned her head and met his eyes for the first time in a while. She bit her lip.

 

Sora looked into her eyes and saw her sadness. He knew exactly what was in his eyes: nothing. Nothing at all. He had no feelings anymore.

 

Kairi gnawed on her lip as she stared back at him. She wished he would say something, but she could tell by his expression that he wasn't feeling the best. Her eyes widened slightly. This was a Sora she'd never seen before, ever. She desperately wanted to give him a hug at that moment, but it probably wasn't appropriate right now.

 

Sora turned away at Kairi's surprised expression and burried his head in his hands, hiding his face in shame.

 

Kairi decided to sit down, and she sat right next to him, keeping her eyes on him even though he wasn't looking at her.

 

Sora shakily took in a breath, keeping his face hidden in his hands. He noticed out of the corner of his eye that Kairi was sitting next to him now.

 

"Sora..." Kairi's eyes softened. She hated seeing him like this, but she didn't know what she could do to help him. Or was she even helping by staying?

 

Sora lift his head up out of his hands and looked straight ahead. He really didn't have anything to say, but he could tell by Kairi's voice that the silence was hurting her. "I'm sorry," he spoke softly. The first words he had spoken in a little while.

 

Kairi suddenly didn't want to leave him. He was falling apart, and she wanted to be there to patch the pieces up. "Do you mind if I stay?" she asked politely and softly, her eyes concerned as she looked at the side of his face.

 

Sora shook his head. "No, please stay." Sora whispered softly as he leaned back into the couch and looked down at his lap.

 

The corners of Kairi's lips barely turned up and she nodded. She got up and went to the front door, taking off her shoes and winter accessories and coat. After setting them down, she went back to the couch and sat down in the same spot right next to Sora.

 

Sora blinked, wondering what was wrong with him. Why was he feeling so empty? How was it possible to feel so terrible? There was one thing that Sora recognized at that moment: things couldn't get worse.

 

"You know what my grandma always used to say to me when I was little?" Kairi asked, breaking the silence as she stared at the tree.

 

"What's that?" Sora asked, not shifting his gaze.

 

"Things have to get worse before they can get better," Kairi said softly, staring at the lights on the tree.

 

"Well, I don't see how things can get much worse than this." Sora state, blinking again.

 

"That's good, then. Because things can only go up from here." Kairi turned her head, looking at his face with her violet-blue orbs.

 

Sora turned his head a little bit so he could see her better and gave her a small nod.

 

Kairi smiled slightly. Hopefully those words had helped him. She remembered how when her grandmother said those words, she hadn't thought much of them until she was older. But ever since a year or two ago, when she finally understood them, she lived by it.
