Kairi furrowed her eyebrows again, her features showing how confused and frustrated she was. She turned around with the same expression on her face, her eyes falling on Sora as he continued to walk away. "Wait a second."

 

Sora stopped walking, but he didn't turn around. He couldn't face her right now. He just couldn't.

 

Kairi stayed where she was, staring at the back of his head. "Don't...don't say that. Ruin Christmas, Sora? Why would you even think that?" Her voice was firm and confused at the same time, but rising slightly. "What, would it be better to spend it in that hospital bed than in the comfort of your own home?" She felt something too familiar within her, and it'd reach her eyes in only a few seconds. "I don't think you understand how relieved I am that you're finally free of that place, free to move around and do as you please." That feeling again, Kairi knew it was coming. "I only want to be here with you, Sora. And when you regret even having me here, it hurts. A lot." Vision blurring, her tears were forming. "I love you, Sora. And when you say things like that, it makes people...upset, and angry, and...confused." One tear slid down her cheek. "You say you may not be the same person, Sora. But I know deep down that the old you is still in there. And as cheesy as you think this may sound, that person is engraved in your heart." Kairi stared at the back of his head, another tear sliding down her face.

 

Sora blinked and felt a single tear slide down his cheek. "I didn't mean to hurt you." He bit his lip, glad that Kairi couldn't see his face. "It seems like that's the only thing I'm good at anymore," he mumbled quietly and looked at the floor.

 

Kairi shook her head, narrowing her eyes slightly as her vision only blurred more. "Stop it, Sora." She looked at the floor, watching a few tears leave her eyes and hit the carpet. "Is being here with me not good enough?" She bit her lip and closed her eyes, feeling one more tear slide down her cheek.

 

Sora was confused. What did she mean by that? "What? I don't understand..." he trailed off, looking at the closed window that was directly in front of him.

 

Kairi looked up. "It's Christmas Eve, Sora, and you're so upset. I thought you'd just be happy to have me here with you..." She shook her head slightly and looked to the side.

 

Sora spun around and looked at Kairi. "I would be happy if I wasn't hurting you right now." He explained loudly, his voice a little sharp. He didn't stop there. "I wish I could change that, but I don't see how to when I don't even know who I am anymore!"

 

Kairi flinched slightly at his tone. She slowly met his eyes again, her own violet-blue orbs intense. "I don't know who you are either," she said, her voice like venom. "But when you act like this, it only proves that you're different!"

 

Sora blinked and turned away, another tear sliding down his cheek. "I deserve this," he said softly as he walked towards the front door.

 

Kairi blinked, all frustration melting away. "Wait, Sora. Don't leave," she pleaded, her voice shaky. Kairi quickly went forward a few steps.

 

Sora kept walking, not flinching at all when Kairi spoke again. He silently opened the door and walked out, letting it shut quietly behind him.

 

Kairi ran to the door and whipped it open, stepping outside. "Sora, please don't walk away from me," she cried. She suddenly regretted everything she had said, wishing she could take it all back.

 

Sora stayed silent at the sound of Kairi's voice, tears streaming down his face at a steady pace. He started running away from his house. He didn't know where he was going, but he just had to run.

 

Kairi's vision blurred again, this time worse than before. She brought a hand to her forehead and let a sob escape her, tears flooding down her face.

 

Sora slowed his run to a jog about half a block away, near a small little park. He walked over at sat on the bench, sobbing as the tears continued to run down his face. His body shook because of the sobs and the bitting cold as he sat there, all alone.

 

Kairi's knees buckled and she suddenly felt herself sit on the cold steps. She put her arms on her knees and buried her head in her pale arms. Sobs left her uncontrollably, her shoulders shaking. She didn't mean for this to happen, none of it. Kairi sobbed more when she thought of what she said. Sora hadn't deserved that, especially from her. She couldn't believe she said that, and she mentally cursed herself for it as her tears continued to leave her eyes.

 

Sora looked down at his injured arm, angry and frustrated. A loud cry exit his lips as he took off the sling and threw it onto the cold, frozen ground. He continued to sob as he wrapped his arms around his chest, shaking very hard now.

 

Kairi sucked in a ragged breath, having a hard time catching her breath as she cried. What just happened, it was bad. Really bad when it came to her and Sora. Things like that never happened between them, and now... She sobbed again at the thought.

 

How could this have happened? How could he have run out like that? Kairi had yelled him, sure. And he was being completely honest, and that's what she had wanted. He hadn't meant to hurt her at all. How could he have hurt the one person he cared about most? And on Christmas Eve, of all days? The thoughts made him sob harder, his chest starting to burn in pain from his shaking.
