THIS IS THE SPAZ ZONE. =D

Stars, you are being a bit of a hypocrite, you shouldn't have come out with all of that abuse back a few pages because you're making the situation worse for yourself.

Eh... not sure about this, Styx. Usually you're pretty right, but looking on this I disagree. Homosexual's don't mind being called homosexual because it's a term they have accepted and use themselves. ****** however is a word they DON'T use themselves and is pretty much a hate-term. :/
I know where Stars is coming from, I've been called names about my apparently different sexuality, and they would have hurt a lot less if I had just been called "homosexual".

Someone didn't read the rest of the thread.

You can use the word ****** without necessarily being a homophobe or specifically meaning that the thing/person you call "******(y)" is gay, much like you'd call something you don't like "gay".

Actually, I've been following this thread since it was started, I just didn't want to post sooner because Stars was making it worse for himself.

Sure, he says he has no problem with them, then why on earth is he calling everyone ******s and targeting Stars?
And no, the "everyone says it" excuse is never valid. Ever.

I do see the point being raised, Stars. The word '******' doesn't need to be used -so much- around here. However, as others pointed out, going to racial slurs to slam someone doesn't really help in the argument you are presenting. It makes you look like a hypocrite.

I do agree that the word has been used repeatedly though and people could lower it a bit. Some people here are pretty desensitized but that doesn't mean the word has to be used every single day in multiple threads lately. It also doesn't mean that just because someone brings it up that a word that ticks off quite a few people is used and is asking for it to chill, that others use it more. Seriously guys, antagonizing the issue doesn't help it.

But then again, making a thread in the spam zone to ask people to stop using a word is asking for stupid responses. Maybe Stars, next time you'll consider talking to a staff member about it instead because this approach always just brings drama.

I use the word ****** a lot myself, yet one of my great friends is gay and I have no problem with his sexuality, I think Proposition 8 is a disgrace, etc.

    It doesn't mean anything.

In summation, they're not overusing it because they're homophobic/have a problem with Stars' sexuality, they're just doing it to piss him off because he did something dumb.

It's pretty dramatic that you're taking the word as a offense...after all, everything in this section (Well mainly everything) is posted for a joke, not to offend people...So, just get over it...It's a word thats tossed around, and shouldn't be taken seriously....

Yes, of course it doesnt, thats why people get offended over it. :/

He didn't do anything dumb. Okay, it was a bit silly to start a thread like this, but he didn't really say anything stupid in his first post.
It's okay to continually piss people off now is it? Okay, it would have been funny to say it once or twice, but I've seen the word ****** used about thirty times..and thats you alone. :/

People getting upset over silly things is nothing new. At least, THIS offended, anyway.

Starting this thread was yes, dumb and the first post was dumb because

    1. It's silly to get so upset about it. Honestly. Especially if it's just thrown around out of context without directly meaning to insult gay people. That and it's the internet.

    2. Even assuming the first one is incorrect, this thread has led to absolutely nothing, and that should have been obvious from the very beggining, all it's caused is unnecessary drama, and that too should have been obvious.

Me? I've only used it once or twice in the whole thread. Vice and Farore were the ones overusing it.

You don't think it was funny? Sure, okay, maybe it wasn't, but that has nothing to do with my original point: Vice (and Farore) are not homophobes.

Here's what I don't understand. How can you get offended by something that never meant anything or that never made any sense?

If suddenly a group of people started calling lesbians a random type of cigarette synonym or brand of meatball, why would they have the right to feel offended by that? Maybe if I knew the context of the word "******" as it is used now I would understand and concur but for now my point still stands.

@ Hades - Fine then, Vice and Farore are the antagonizing pricks. I'll rephrase. Whatever, we still don't want the likes of them here.

@ Styx - I honestly have no idea, but people quite obviously get offended over it.

I hardly doubt people suddenly started calling homosexual people ******s randomly :/ It's quite obviously a hate term, just because its more commonly used now doesn't mean it stings any less for homosexual people when they hear or see it.

Actually Hades, I agree with you a little. This IS the internet. To be honest I regret posting here now, we both have fairly strong arguments but this is going nowhere and I should be eating a cheese pizza. D:

People need to get over their apparent "right to be offended" and leave other people alone. I mean seriously, can't people take a joke? Unless someone is using a "slur" in the manner of a slur against you or someone else then it doesn't matter. No-one here is actually using the word ****** to insult anyone, it is a commonly used word nowadays just as gay is.

These super-sensitive people need to learn to get a live or GTFO. And for those who didn't know, even though I thought it would have been pretty obvious by now, I am gay myself.

The point though is that it's not such a big deal, but then people come in and antagonize after. If they'd just say something less provocative, crap wouldn't get blown out of proportion, i.e. Just because I use the word, doesn't mean I hate homsexuals'. Instead it gets artarded.

I do realise that enough can be enough, but was the original complaint not about the use of the word at all? A word is a word, it is context that gives it meaning.

If he finds it offensive, he has the right to say so. Why don't people just avoid using the word? The word is being used so often on this forum and it's beginning to pissing me off, too.

I will say it again, a word is a word. The reason you find it offensive is because you choose to. It is usually not used in an insulting or derogatory way and so looses it's barb. Why don't either ignore it or see it as the word that it is rather than trying to tell the rest of us what we can and cannot say?

I'm not trying to dictate to anyone what words they can say and what they cannot. You've misunderstood what I was trying to get across. What does it mean when it's not used "in an insulting or derogatory way"? I doubt people are calling each other cigarettes.
