For making this commercial, but I think it's cool to have. It's all about marketing.

    I laughed way too hard.

For Mike: What I'm wondering is who on the site you are pitching to, with your official website, a resume, a business card/flier-type picture of yourself and a quote of yourself in your signature. I understand the whole marketing strategy, but what kind of audience are you marketing to here, and what are you selling?

Honestly curious; I hope I'm not being rude or anything...

I'm not really looking for a particular audience. I mean it would be nice if some casting directors could see it. I've worked with one while taking my vocal lesson in the city.

And I really don't get the picture reference.

I see. I'm just puzzling over why you would try to pitch to this community. In my experience, it is those who happen to be awesome who are respected in a community rather than those who broadcast it; basic psychology. That is for an individual reputation. Marketing for a business is an exception because you need to get your name out there to get business, but I don't see who you're marketing to so it puzzles me.

Oh, sorry. I meant this thing:

It makes your signature look like a business card or flier; an advertisement of some kind. I don't see the appeal or payoff of trying to sell yourself on a site like this, is all.

EDIT: Just trying to figure you out, please don't take offense to my prying.

Not really. The signature is nothing special. I just made it. I liked how the photo came out and I put something that means a lot to me.

It's not just that, it's that the whole thing is an advertisement for yourself—not just the picture, but the everything in the signature. I didn't mean to single the image out. The links to your site, your profiles on IMDb, YouTube and others, the part where you say "Resume", the self-quote... They add up to look like an advertisement for a product.

I don't know. I'm getting confused now. Isn't a signature supposed to show things of who you are? There's lots of links and stuff, but it happens to link to all my work.

I guess so, but the psychology of it doesn't make sense to me. It doesn't matter and I shouldn't take it so seriously, but the more I think about it, the more overbearing and counter-productive it seems to talk about yourself beneath every single post. It is supposed to express who you are, and that's exactly my point: what is it that you are trying to express, and to whom? It's pretty easy to get a handle on someone based on what they like, so most people put stuff they like in their signatures. You put yourself there directly. When everyone else puts what they like in their signatures and you put yourself in yours, that can give the impression that what you like is yourself, which can be negative. Is talking about yourself directly as opposed to other things you like what you want to do? If so, then why so? I don't get it. I'm almost definitely overthinking, though, so don't worry about it.

Makaze, as far as I know as long as it's not like against the rules or whatever, people can use their signature for whatever they want ... you latch onto the strangest things to criticise.

Yea, you are thinking about it WAY too much. There is no message in it. The things that "I like" isn't about myself in particular. It's what I like to do. Acting and voicing. All the stuff on my signature represents what I like to do. I think anybody who puts there self out there is brave. In order to became someone...you need to put yourself out there, no?

I hold that everyone already is someone, and that if they stopped trying to prove it and instead acted with confidence others would realize it on their own. Putting yourself out there is an act of trying to show others that you are someone. I do not feel that others are necessary for that to occur.

There is a difference between being happy and saying that you are happy.
There is a difference between being sad and saying that you are sad.
There is a difference between being awesome and saying that you are awesome.
There is a difference between being pathetic and saying that you are pathetic.

Outwardly saying these things actually undermines your confidence in them. It is like you think they won't be real unless you say them. It is possibly a personal perception of mine but I do not feel that 'putting yourself out there' shows confidence at all, but rather a wish to appear confident when confidence is lacking.

But I should have been out of this thread ages ago. Cheers...

Are you implying I lack confidence?

Maybe a little, but you have some confidence.

It is the psychology of confidence that I am remarking upon rather than that of any specific person.
