and, naturally, need to accumulate hella tunes for the ride. I've assembled a mega-playlist that runs about 18 hours, just to make sure I have enough music on my phone for anything (I recently got a new one), and then a more curated "road trip songs" playlist that's just shy of 5 hours right now.

I've been browsing the internet's many lists of road trip tunes and thought I'd extend the offer to y'all to recommend me some songs. A few guidelines:
    • no need to embed a bunch of youtube videos, just artist and song name will suffice
    • songs should be fun with the possibility of singing along. nothing depressing.
    • looking for a summer indie folk & rock vibe, because that's what I'm into, but I will entertain suggestions outside of that. just use it as your guiding light. some of y'all know what i like, and if you don't, well come talk to me sometime but also check out the list below

i know you don't like panic at the disco but on the real everything you just described is Pretty. Odd.
folky, upbeat songs that are literally about feeling good, being happy, summer, weather, and good times.
there's a downer in the middle but it's more of a mellow, reflective song than a straight up depressing one
i mean for christ's sake there's a song on it called folkin' around. and it's like my third favorite song ever.
please just do me this solid and give it a shot

Weezer's recent album Everything Will Be Alright in the End comes to mind. not sure if it's your thing but whatever.
look up Foxy Shazam's album The Church of Rock and Roll. not sure if you'll like it but it's fun.
Hey Vanity's EP Breathe, Bleed, Grow.

we have extremely different tastes in music aside from one or two overlaps, but these are the things I have that I think fall in your categories. check them out on yt or something and see if there are any songs on the albums you like. i won't presume to understand your tastes well enough to pick individual songs

do my eyes spy a sex criminals influenced selection

I think you'd like Honeyblood, especially the tracks Kissing on You, Killer Bangs and Drowsy. They have the whole indie rock singalong thing going on.

Could always listen to video game soundtracks, such as Kingdom Hearts. (Totally didn't see that coming, huh?)

My sister is big into Panic so I've heard all their stuff quite a bit -- if I had to listen to them i'd choose Pretty Odd but it just doesn't do it for me unfortunately
Of course! This is me we're talking about. My boyfriend and I are huge into Sex Criminals, we want to be Jon and Suzie for Halloween.
Will check these out! (and the ones @61 mentioned)

We like to sing along to things.

Hm. Basshunter's always an option, as well as Darren Styles.

No worries, haha! We all have different tastes.

Unless I missed it on the list, what about that Mexican group you like?

Edit: Los Compañeros, I think it was.

Los Campesinos!, who aren't a Mexican group, they're primarily from Wales, they just have a Spanish name. I already have a song by them on there and plenty of other stuff on my phone by them. I'm trying not to overload with too much of one artist.

Looking at your OP more closely, this seems to fit what you're generally looking for: Simple Plan - Shut Up!

Some of these are kinda sad, and some are very not indie, because that's just how I am, so bear with me:

    Albums:
The Black Keys - El Camino [recommended by girlfriend]
Foo Fighters - Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace
    Lostprophets - Start Something
    Thrice - In Exile
    Thrice - Major/Minor

    Singles:
30 Seconds to Mars - Do or Die
Active Child - High Priestess (Polaris at Noon Remix)
Angels & Airwaves - Letters to God, Part II
Ben Howard - Oats in the Water
Depeche Mode - Enjoy the Silence (Reinterpreted by Mike Shinoda)
Dustin Kensrue - Blanket of Ghosts
    Stars - Dead Hearts
    Switchfoot - More Than Fine
The 1975 - Girls [recommended by girlfriend]
Tennis System - Dead Honey [recommended by girlfriend]
Thrice - Words in the Water (Polaris at Noon Remix)

    Necessary:
Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix, Vol. 1

If you'd like specific recommendations from any of the albums, let me know. I have a fair idea what tracks would attain your favor.

(replying as I listen to things, please do keep 'em coming)
I listen to Weezer occasionally, haven't checked out this album before though! Dug a few tracks, going to add them to my mega-playlist. Thanks.
Definitely a fun sound but I'm not much into, like, pure rock like this.
wow they remind me of weezer
    nah fam it ain't 2005

You could try some Death Cab for Cutie, or Bon Iver.

    i dig i dig i dig
a bit more of a "going to the beach" vibe than driving through the mountains but what the hell I'll toss it in
this has a bit of a Joanna Gruesome vibe WHICH I LOVE. good work
I was about to write "this is a little too sleepy for me" and then I re-read the title and realized it's probably the point

like the vibe on this group though thanks for the suggestion!
first two songs were kinda heavy, not really what I'm looking for
street drums corps were aight but this sort of music does not encourage the safest driving habits in me
please do give song recs if possible! much easier/faster than going through an entire album (I'm leaving in a few days and just don't have time haha), rest assured that if I really dig a track I check out the full album
    i don't like 30STM
I dig this, it reminds me a little of How to Dress Well (whom I love dearly), but a little bit too ambient for a road trip! (for me, and for what I'm looking for -- so for this road trip)
reccing me AvA AS IF I DON'T ALREADY KNOW
a little too sad for a happy rompin' road trip

ACTUALLY A LOT OF THIS IS SAD & EMO HAYA WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO TO ME
i like this thanks haya's gf
    lmao **** that noise, literally

I AM CONSTANTLY IN CONFLICT OVER DEATH CAB because like, they're good, they're just not that good for me and I don't understand why people like them so much!
I do have a few of their songs on my mega-playlist though
bon iver is a lil too chilled out for this trip ty

    The Maccabees - Pelican
The Vaccines - If you wanna
    Modest Mouse - Float On
Florence and the Machine - Dog Days are Over (2010)
    112 - Peaches and Cream

That last one isn't the one you wanted, but the one you needed.
