Should bars start turning off their TV's because the stuff they see on them has to be paid to see otherwise?

That's different. Bars pay for cable and are allowed to share it as such. I doubt the people who stream animu or torrented movies have paid for it.

I dunno bout the anime stuff, but I paid for all the DVD's I've ripped. Dunno if that makes things better, but just stating that I think I'm allowed to share it. Correct if I'm wrong though.

When DS started the site he emailed Square if it would be okay to do this and they didn't seem to have any problems at all.

It's essentially the same thing as putting the movie up on youtube. Okay, you paid for it, but the people watching didn't.

If you bought it then it should be fine. It'd be like inviting your friends to come see a movie you bought or rented. But downloaded content is another story, of course.

This is all if I remember correctly, but I believe they did.

Also @ Hayabusa & Kiburedo: It's not only that it's illegal it's against livestream's terms of service.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as long as you aren't distributing your own copies (IE a download or burned CD/dvd) then I don't think It's illegal. It's against some streaming sites rules, and people will probably get pissed at you for uploading, but I don't think it's illegal to stream as long as what you're streaming was obtained legally.

As I said before, it's like buying a movie and watching it at your house with your friends. No illegal activity involved.

Yeah but that's like four people. Potentially you could have 100 people viewing a movie they didn't pay to see. Go back to my youtube example; you could have payed for the movie through and through, but there are now people watching it that didn't, which isn't good.
    You didn't. It's all good. <3

Which is essentially why it's against the rules and such for streaming sites. I understand that. Just trying to explain why it's technically not illegal. The worst that could happen is the site bans you. If the FBI comes knocking at your door... then lol.

For all intents and purposes, it's illegal as far as this site goes. We'd edit it out if someone posted a link to a site where you could watch anime for free that didn't have the proper rights; this is a similar situation.

Oh well. I doubt many of those sites got their anime legally anyway.

As Cam said before, hardly anyone on the internet pays attention to copyright. We have to restrict things like that on here though because it could get the site in trouble, which we don't want.
