    That is breaking away from mainstream. It was once manly to wear a dress. Change is anathema to conformity and mainstream. If everyone is mainstream, then no progress will be made on any fronts.

    The problem is that a change in standards is not always a matter of being better or not. Artistic eras are a good example of changes in standards but not quality.
