How is clicking a button more difficult than pressing two keys to make >? What kind of backwards world you live in?

What is ugly and what isn't is subjective. We're on a forum Akaz, there's no limit to how much space one can use. If it was, then the Spam Zone wouldn't exist as it is a giant waste of space.

If they actually do this, then you are talking to maroons and they deserve to be confused for being maroons.

Oh Akaz, are you fluffing your list of arguements by reusing old ones? That seems like it would be against your morals, but apperantly not.

Just admit it, Jube's right. You two have got nothing.

To do >this you must hold down the shift button then press the . key
    This only requires a click

    And?
You would have to be a true plebeian to mistake quotes
Once again, only plebs think this way. There is no space being wasted and you only make yourself look like a le redditor or someone from tumblr when you do >this outside of 4chan.

For someone who uses both hands on the keyboard while writing a post, having to move off of the keyboard either for a touchpad or a mouse, move the cursor to the button and click it takes more time than pressing two keys. Especially if your post is long, as mine can be.

I know it is subjective. That does not change the validity of my argument, as the superiority based on ridiculousness, as Jube put it before, is also subjective.

I should have ignored you from the start. You have never used his convention before this discussion and your arguments are worse than useless, you mock yourself. Trolling.

    Ah, well.

The burden of proof is on the one making the claim. When the poster is given a choice between differentiating between an actual quote and an addition, the burden is on them for making that choice.

Someone who manages to choose the method with the higher rate of failure despite other options is, in fact, the maroon.

Unless you have decreased in intelligence since we last spoke, then you know the flaw in the last two pieces and said them only to rile me.

You say "only", while the movement required to do this takes much more time and effort if one was already typing with both hands. See above.

Argument from numbers in this case. If your method is so intuitive and natural, then why have only you concluded to use it? The classic defense would be, "because everyone else is a plebian," but by that right you would never admit that your method could be wrong because anyone who said otherwise would then become a plebian to you due to you seeing your argument as infallible.

I have struggled against numbers before as well, but you have had trouble convincing anyone, which, you must admit, reflects badly on it.

    Same argument as above.

When you are given an option between two methods which have differing rates for misconception, the burden is on you to choose the one that will create the fewest misconceptions, not on the reader to perceive accurately. For one, when the reader knows that you have this more differentiated option, they might wonder why you chose quotes instead, and that in itself might lead them to assume that it is an actual quote straight-off.

You could likewise claim that the reader is at fault for any misconception that you engender by calling them idiots. That does not change the fact that you made a choice which caused more misconceptions than other options.

I have never seen that on Tumblr, actually. They do have a quote feature there and it is widely used, much more efficient than here to be honest. I assume you at least know what it looks like. Please do not use this to take cheap shots at sites you dislike unless you have seen that for yourself.

You are using fear mongering as well as appealing to ridicule. If someone mistakes me for such, then I will simply explain that I hate and have never posted on reddit and that I have never used > on Tumblr, nor, indeed, for anything but a quote on 4chan, and I have only been there once.

If your decision is based entirely on image and reputation associated with other sites, then by your logic, even someone who has never heard of 4chan or reddit or been there should avoid > in order to save themselves the bad reputation of a site they have never heard of. You are arguing that people they have never spoken to should have more sway over the acceptableness of their behavior than they themselves.

Since your convention is your own invention, used by no other, you also feel that your personal judgment should be better than their own. It seems you would rather anyone choose their method but they themselves.

As is, only you and Christhor (doubtful he is genuine) have even condemned using >. The fact is that most people, on this site especially, are neither 4chan nor reddit users and have no reason to care about the reputation that comes with sharing habits which were formed quite apart from either of them.

Well alright then, quotes look better.

Actually, I have. It was quite a while ago though, in particular I remember an intense discussion about Blitzball where I used this method. It's just recently that I've not used it.

Think of it as weeding out the weak. If they cannot differentiate between something I say and something I'm quoting, then they are hardly worth my time. This seems like something you would agree with, is it not?

There is no flaw in anything I say. You just did not have a comeback.

Didn't we just have a discussion a couple of days ago, where you said that popularity is never an arguement?

    >and this

    Looks ugly.

It's also not necessary to be funny, or help an argument, or anything.

It appears that most users disagree, or they would use them.

    Personal tic forced onto others.

Jube himself did not know this, so I had no chance to. An old habit once dropped is no longer applicable, but I acknowledge that you have used it if you say you have.

That hardly applies when everyone else but you uses quotes as actual quotes and > for what you use quotes for. I do not advocate condemning others for not adhering to the habits of a single individual when those habits have no reason for existing outside of external bias.

    Personal tic forced onto others.

    Nice try.

I had to rub my temples for a bit. The lengths you go through to appear an idiot are amazing.

I said "this case" and posed a question specifically because it is not an argument from popularity, but rather an argument from numbers, or statistics if you will.

I feel that Jube's conclusion is based on his personal experience with other sites and not some kind of intuitive preference. As such, his argument only applies to people who have visited 4chan or another chan and know the origin of greentexting or what it is. In asking him why no one else had come to his conclusion, I was trying to get him to think of these reasons: that his opinion is based on his personal experiences and is not intuitive to this forum in itself.

    And checkmate.

He has a point. (Even if he mixed up his application of plurals.)

What the hell you guys are ridiculous to argue about this. Guys posted one funny picture, and made one misspelling in the thread, and you've successfully argued for like 3 pages about quoting.

Hey man, I spent a great deal of time thinking about what would annoy Akaz the most. I'd say it was pretty successful, considering he even had to state he rubbed his temples. Not everyone can just use an ugly, red, intalic font.

I'm pretty sure everyone knows about that skit, it's terrible recreations and the terrible pop/rap song that sampled the original song after the original skit got whored out online.
