But anything running Android is almost automatically a better phone. Apple doesn't make things very well, and they charge almost double the money for the same product with restricted software to boot. They just look pretty and have a nice symbol. What's the catch here? Why buy the more expensive piece of hardware? Is there some kind of feature that I am missing here?

Well, the only Apple product I own is an iPod Touch, and I like it so much that I'm considering the iPhone when my current phone gives up. It really depends on the consumer, I guess. Just a personal preference.
