    The first successful English settlement was made in 1607. That was 405 years ago.

    That's correct, I am.

    I meant conservative in the sense of sticking with what one knows or being averse to change to varying degrees, as well as the current definition. I consider most of the people who vote for both parties conservative in personality.

    A conservative wishes to stand with the established status quo (as they see it) whatever it may be, so a majority will always be conservative by necessity. In a society where the majority are democrats, most conservatives will be democrats because they will perceive democratic beliefs as more familiar than others. The fact that the US has one of the worst education systems in the world does not help.

    It is recurrent human trait, not just a US one.
