They can estimate measurements, that's it. Without actually having been there, many things would have to be taken into account.

But I would like to know how they measure them, if you'd be alright sharing.

To anyone who mentioned the ozone layer, I've heard quite recently that the ozone layer has made an amazing recovery. It's not fully repaired, it never will be, but we've made a lot of progress.

And I would also like to point out to Sara and Darky, I said we do have an affect, but it's a lot smaller then people say or think. Either way, there's no stopping global warming, cause we're not the ones "causing" it. There are relations between global warming and rising CO2 levels, and we are at fault for the CO2, but that is stupid to say it's our fault because of that, when it really isn't. Everything that happens, new or otherwise, is because of random coincidence on this planet. The only reason we have water is because Jupiter used to be a bit closer to us, and we just happened to be in just the right stop when a few asteroids carrying ice shot out of the asteriod belt and was slingshot around jupiter and straight into us. Global warming is happen because of coincidence caused by nature, and a small bit of it is contributed to man. Gravity, radiation, atmosphere, greenhouse affect, heat, freezing, melting, cooling...these are ALL things in science that have come togethor by coincidence and caused global warming, and therefore there is a new ice age to come. Man being there, well we are only strengthening things, it's ******ed to blame man for something on such a large scale. We give ourselves too much credit and despite the fact that we're realizing the problem, through our arrogance we believe we can change a planet with a car. The simple fact is, we can't. Humans are truthfully not that powerful. "We're killing the planet, we're causing global warming!"; we are doing no such thing. The planet will be here far longer then we will. Global warming is a small phase in many many many more phases that the Earth will progress through. We humans are nought but a phase. Who knows, maybe Global warming is just something the Earth is using to get rid of us, so it can enter a new phase of being a desolete planet. We are a minor nuisance, like tiny misquitos crawling all over the world., it was only a matter of time before we got the flyswatter.

With all this being said (wonderful summary there, Cin btw) I would also like to point out that about 20-30 years ago Scientists were absolutely sure that we were going through "Global Cooling", so who's to say this all isn't mere miscalculation, or, perhaps, a simple climate change that will pass in a year or two?

Because this has been going on for a few years now, and that incident with global cooling was indeed a miscalculation. But science has progressed so much, we should at least be bale to understand what's happening tot he planet by now.

One would think, but I won't hold my breath for any explanations at the moment. I'd at least wait until everything settles down politically. You'd be surprised who would try to use Global Warming as a political action.

But all I'm saying is I won't set anything in stone in terms of my beliefs, at least not right now. Global Warming could or could not be a serious issue. All I know, is gas costs more, which makes me want to be more economical, so I will.

    This is really interesting.
I think that we are a very small 0.5 of 1 percent of it.

There is ALOT of argument both ways.

I think there is global warming. And, even if we're only contributing a little [which I highly doubt] why not still try to scale it back?

Sure the earths temperature changes drastically from era to era[think ice age etc]
BUT that gigantic growing hole in the ozone layer is a result of humans releasing chloroflorocarbons [cfcs] into the atmosphere. that is NOT natural.

i think, either way, it would be safest and smartest to change our attitudes now. it couldnt hurt, and we might be safing the planet. and about it being only a small percentage that we create, our climate is rather delicate, so even a small amount could make a big change. tho after seeing the program on the big global warming swindle im not too sure anymore. but i definitely think that something has to be done, if not about global warming at least the dwindling fossil fuels etc

Very well said! I completely agree, I mean whats the harm? Itd be better to be weary now rather than panic when its too late.

    okay....

But we should change our cars from fossil fuel to something else. It could help quite a bit.

Agreed. Alternative fuel sources are NEVER a bad idea!

"global warming definitly is happening its always sooo hot outside my school"
Global warming is a little more complex than that:p But you are right, and air as well as ocean temps are rising. Animals that have adapted to the modern climate will have to adapt yet again or face extinction:eek:

i say we did not start the process, but we are making it worse. say the entire worlds population is in a car. in frot of us, about three miles away, is a cliff with a 9000000000000000000000000000000 mile fall to our death. we, the drivers of the car, have the opportunity to press the break and turn around. but we are just cranking up the speed to the max and putting the pedal to the metal. that is us with the issue of global warming.

a side note: yes, lets say we are going to destroy the planet, drown the world with the water from melted ice caps, blah blah drone drone witter. here's a thing i just considered. we are ****** enough to kill ourselves and wipe out the earth. but what about other inhabitants? i don't think they want to die because of our stupidity, do you? i know some of their brains can't comprehend it, but by being the fools we are, we won't only only kill ourselves, but an entire beautiful ecosystem. and no, i am not a greenpeace activist. and this may be a bit 'teacher after studying sustainablility', but i am trying nto save as much power as i can, i am considering getting solar power for my house, and trying to spread the word, and i suggest you do the same.

    wow. Exellent point saxoR_vs_aroS.

I agree with everything you say. We are stupid enough to kill ourselves with global warming and we only have ourselves to blame.

Global Warming? Here's what I think of it:

Global Warming is a normal part of Eath's cycle. First it heats up, and becomes (what I call) The Melting Times. Then it cools to form The Ice Age. There's NOTHING we can do about it....But, I don't think it's a problem.

I've learnt about those theories in geography and yes it is true, this is why the earth goes through hot and cold periods, but this process takes thousands and thousand of years, and yes the world is currently in a warming period.

But not at this rapid rate, this is where global warming comes in. You all say it's not to do with humans, mainly the earths natural cycle, mind my language but bull ****. Global warming is the after effect of the CO2 emissions in the air which is warming the earth, a process caused by humans, Yes powerful volcanoes do cause high emissions into the air, but these are short term rare events and are not to blame. The past 100 years has seen a massive change is global tempertures, it's increasing far more quickly than it's suppose to. Why do you think hurricanes are getting worse, skin cancer is a much higher risk, ice caps melting. It's all caused by humans.

    Edit:

    Look at this:

You can see the earths natural change in CO2, this is also what the global temperture chart looks like over thousands of years, the low periods are Ice ages and high periods the warming periods. I was shown a graph in geography with one just like this, and it showed we are currently working our way up to a warming period. Yes the process is natural, but not this rapid rate, this is where the human effect is coming in and now biting us in the ***.

saxoR_vs_aroS, you've finally used all that knowledge gained for good :p.

your'e right. we can actually slow/stop global warming, it's just that not a lot of people care about it. they don't want to 'press the break and turn around.'

I think global warming is real. I think it's huge problem that we difinitely need to fix right now. We should care or else we'll be underwater...

Unless we all go under rapid evolution in the next 30 to 50 years... I suggest we/they do something.

We've only been in heavy industrialization for 200 years, and the earth has been around 4 billion years. Given that the earth has been through things like meteors, comets and ice ages, I don't think we can really make a difference.

i don't believe we should always believe them, but i don't believe in global warming... englands not getting any hotter and sure enough Aussies like raining and cold everyday (i lived in england now live in aus) i don't think those are the symptons of global warming
