Sniffle, working makes me forget about holidays where I can actually spend time with my family instead of staying in my room all day. Please.

My parents are upset over the fact they can't give me and my two brothers a good Christmas and I keep telling them not to worry.

The only thing I want is Dragonball GTL The Complete Series and maybe some transformers.

I assume you've never bought a used game in your life then?
Because it's essentially the same thing if not worse, you're paying someone else for a game that someone else made.

Yes I've bought a used game, but that game was still made by someone else. Just because you're not paying the person that made the game, you're still paying for an official copy of the game.
As long as you're paying for a real version of the game, instead of some downloaded version, it's better, since at least you're paying for something someone worked on, instead of something that was just downloaded and wasn't even payed for

I don't think you'd be able to fully understand why I don't use emulators. It's like playing a fake, when you can just pay for the real thing

I could emulate all of those at the same time and it would only take like 3% of my cpu.

But you're not paying the PERSON WHO MADE THE GAME!
Square doesn't care if you bought the game for a thousand dollars, if you didn't buy it from THEM then that's a loss for them.
You've given someone completely unrelated to the game production money for a game that they did not make.
When buying a used game what is essentially happening is
    Person buys game
Person is done with game and puts it for sale
    Someone buys game from person
That person has now received money for selling a game that they did not make. There was no effort made into the sale at all, they didn't code the game onto a new console or anything. They literally just sold it.

If you work on a project with someone and you do all the work while the other guy does nothing and then you BOTH come out with an A+ don't you think there's something NOT RIGHT about that?

Buying a used game is ten times worse then downloading it.
Downloading is just labelled as "illegal" whereas buying used is not so people think that buying used must be better, but in actuality you are doing more harm to Square buy buying it used then downloading it.

But that so called "fake" isn't a fake
You know what the difference between a copy of Final Fantasy IX and an ISO file is?
    One's on a disc
    That's all
And that "disc" can be varied depending on what region of the world you live in. The disc in Europe may be blue while the disc in Japan may be red.
You wouldn't say that the European disc is fake though now would you?
If the European version had a completely different game on it then yes it would be fake
But as long as the data is the same you are playing the same Final Fantasy IX developed by Square soft.

Did I also mention that the so called "fake" version that you dread so much is ten times better then the disc version in terms of performance and graphical capabilities?
The point is there aren't the much "new" copies of Final Fantasy IX out there
A lot of the people who worked on Final Fantasy IX have left square to move on to other things
At the end of the day you're probably gonna be buying it used
I just say why not do the lesser of the two evils?

whatever, you have your view and I have mine. I hate emulators and that's that. I just don't like them. They are fake, and you're not even paying for them. Even if you're paying someone else, you're still buying an official copy, which isn't as bad as not paying at all. And even if you're not paying the person that made the game, the person who owned the game payed for it, and you pay them, and even still, all that money is centered around a game that someone made so they can share it with other people. Unlike an emulator that you just download a file. I can't appreciate the fact that people put the file online, when a company makes a game and sells it so people can enjoy it. I'll wait years to play one game by paying for it, instead of just downloading it.
Besides, don't you ever get a feeling that there's something different between the two? It's like watching a scene of a game on youtube compared to something on your TV. The one on the TV is more real, because you worked to get to that scene, and you can appreciate it, instead of just watching it online and seeing that it's good. There's a different feeling between the two. I'd rather appreciate what I did for my stuff, instead of just download it and have no feeling towards it whatsoever

How do you think they get the iso? It magically appears online? No.

Someone had to buy it in order to get the iso and people CAN buy a game and rip the iso themselves and play it on an emulator. I did that with kh2.
Nothing fake about it at all.

I think his point is that he wants to own the physical copy? I'm not sure, but I think that's the point. Though I agree with you, I prefer emulator. I bought a PS2 with some games, but I'm actually playing it on an emulator using a PS3 controller instead.

Likewise and it actually runs better on my computer. Oh and fun fact. You can put the official disc in your computer and emulate it. So it isn't fake. At all.

I know, that's what I did. But still, I think it's probably the collector in him wanting to own the physical PS2, the game, etc. which I get. If I don't acquire my music online, I buy the CD. I have bought one song online.

Yeah. Most people who want to own something physical is because subconsciously you feel that the physical item has a higher value than the digital item. Most people have that in one form or another. This is what I call "the collector in people"

    Uhh yeah
    IT'S WORSE
BECAUSE SOMEONE ELSE IS PROFITING OFF SOMEONE ELSE'S WORK!
    Why can't you understand this?

    Download
Someone ISN'T profiting off someone else's work

    Used
Someone IS profiting off someone else's work

    FULL STOP!
Download is the lesser of the two evils
Anyone can clearly see this, it's not a matter of "In my opinion paying someone else benefits the company more"
    BECAUSE IT'S NOT SUBJECTIVE
    IT'S A FACT!
PAYING SOMEONE ELSE FOR WORK THEY DID NOT PRODUCE IS BAAAAAAAAD!

    Ummm, no it's not
With an emulated game as long as I didn't use save states then I still got to that point in the game fair and square.
It's just that my version looks better.

This is Persona 4 is native resolution
All PS2's are set to native resolution
    [IMG]

This is Persona 4 at 4x native resolution
Something only possible on an emulator
    [IMG]

Like I said, do whatever the hell you want
Just don't go spouting things like "It's fake" and "Buying used is better" because that's wrong.

So would you illegally download music off a website instead of paying for a song? Because what you're saying is basically that. It's better to at least pay for something than to just take it by downloading.
And if you don't get a difference between playing the actual game and playing an emulator, than you just won't understand what I'm talking about. And personally, I'd rather deal with the game that has worse graphics than the one with better, because at least then I'm playing the original. I'd rather not use something just because it gives better graphics.
