Seriously though, governments should be subsidizing textbooks instead of things like high-fructose corn syrup. Or colleges should invest in e-readers ($99 staring price), and buy them in bulk for students and give out free copies of etextbooks like they do Microsoft products.

Living in a developed country makes you rich. Ta-da.

Agreed. That is why libraries are the greatest thing man has invented.

The homeless drunks of the developed world may disagree.

Indeed, an extremely under appreciated commodity.

Governments should subsidise courses, they are the biggest stretch on our incomes. Being straight into debt before you even have your first job is not appealing.

But yes, they should introduce that too.

What? You are kidding me right?

No, I am not kidding. Did he assume that all libraries must be public to exist, or...?

Libraries that are free-for-all-to-use are what's appealing.

That is not what we have. Libraries are paid for by taxes. In my county, they threatened to shut down the library if we did not agree to raise property taxes. As a result, property taxes were voted up. The money has to come from somewhere. Please do not forget that.

Dude it's totally a conspiracy. I haven't even bothered with new textbooks this semester. (Then again I'm not a studious student)

Cheapest would be e-books or renting them from places like Chegg, but usually the colleges find a way to screw you over anyways. (changing the edition every semester, not buying back the book that was "the new edition" that semester you bought it, etc.)

I stopped trying to sell my books anywhere (except maybe Craigslist) after my first year or so. I feel insulted on some of the offers I'm given when I return books in the same condition I buy them in.
