Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return

Sora finished his job quickly; he may not have known much about cooking, but he was alright with manual labor. After all, cutting tomatoes really wasn't a challenging task.

 

Kairi pressed her lips together as she dealt with the onions, the fumes causing her to blink a lot. She saw that Sora was done out of the corner of her eye and she glanced at him. "You can throw those in the saucepan for later," she said with a smile. She needed to chop up the onions a little bit more.

 

Sora looked over at the redhead and nodded faintly before he looked back down and grabbed all the tomatoes in his hand, the teen taking to steps over and throwing the foot into the saucepan.

 

Kairi smiled slightly and continued with her work. In a few seconds she was finished, and she dumped the onions in the pan as well. The sauce was already in the bottom of the saucepan, obviously, so now they only had to work on a few things.

 

Sora stepped to the side to give Kairi some space, patiently waiting for his next assignment. But his mind was only on one thing. Cookies...cookies...cookies...

 

"Okay, now we just need to soak the noodles in water and crush the garlic," Kairi stated, looking up at Sora. "Once that's done, we need to finish the sauce and shred the mozzarella for the lasagna." It was a lot to do, in addition to the stacking of the noodles that would come later.

 

"What do you want me to do?" Sora asked, already feeling lost because of all that needed to be done. He definitively wasn't a natural at cooking; he needed constant instruction to lead him along the way so he didn't mess up.

 

Kairi looked into the blue eyes she loved dearly, smiling softly at Sora. "You can fill this pot up with hot water and put it on the stove for me," she requested gently. "And then put the noodles in, okay?" She would take care of the garlic, since she was right next to it, and Sora was closer to the noodles and pot.

 

Sora nodded softly, a small smile appearing on his lips. "I can do that," he assured her. Straightforward instruction...now that was what he needed. He walked forward and grabbed onto the pot's handles, taking it to the sink nearby and starting to fill it with water.

 

While Sora tended to the noodles, Kairi turned back around and began to work with the garlic. From what she remembered about this recipe, she had to crush it. So she did as the recipe instructed, and of what she remembered. She'd seen her mother cook the meal once when she was home, and Kairi took that mental picture and put it to use.

 

Sora did everything Kairi had told him to do, just then putting the noddles into the hot water. He had to admit...he didn't like cooking too much. But being with Kairi made it worth it.

 

As Kairi worked on the garlic, she glanced over at Sora. "So, what'd you do today?" she asked, wanting to make some conversation. The quiet was nice and calming, especially with Sora there. But coversation was good as well.

 

Sora shrugged slightly. "I went for a run, did some house work..." he looked up at the ceiling, trying to remember if he had done anything else. Nothing came to mind, so he stopped trying to recall anything. "That's about it."

 

Kairi nodded, finishing up the garlic. "That's good. You kept yourself busy all day, so you weren't bored," she said with a small smile. It sounded like Sora to be out doing something; he was so restless sometimes.

 

Sora nodded slightly and turned around to face Kairi, even if she wasn't looking at him. "You do anything exciting?" he asked. "I mean...besides preparing your meal?"

 

"Not really," Kairi admitted, taking the garlic and spreading it out in the saucepan. "I mean, I enjoyed the peaceful day at home, but it wasn't very exciting. You know what I mean?" She glanced up at Sora, smiling slightly.

 

Sora nodded slightly, a small smile staying on his lips. "That's how I felt about my day today," he confessed. "It just wasn't exciting until..." he trailed off, eyes wandering to the ground.

 

Kairi brushed the remaining garlic off her hands and into the saucepan, eyes still on Sora. "Until...?" she prodded, curious to hear what Sora had to say. She wasn't sure what to expect, but it obviously made his day more exciting.

 

Sora smiled softly, his eyes wandering back up to Kairi's. "Until I saw you. Heard you laugh. Saw your smile...everything," he said softly, his eyes staying connected with the girl's. He was a bit surprised at how blunt he was, but really, that's exactly what he wanted to say, and he was glad to have said it.

 

Kairi felt her eyes soften, her lips spreading into a shy smile. Her cheeks began to warm and she timidly looked down at the hardwood floor of her kitchen, tucking a few strands of her red hair behind her ear. "Thank you," she said softly, glancing back up to meet Sora's eyes.
