Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return

Sora looked down at the ground with a guilty look on his face as he moved into Kairi's house, his bags still in his hands. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Roxas was only a few steps ahead of him. I gotta come up with a story or something...he thought desperately, knowing Kairi would be mad about the truth.

 

Kairi shut the door, the thick humidity no longer entering her home. She let the boys enter the kitchen as she went into the living room, turning off the television with the press of a button. The redhead then followed her friends' path, heading for the kitchen.

Roxas placed his set of groceries on the island in the middle of the kitchen, setting himself down at one of the seats in front of it. How were he and Sora going to explain this? Yes, obviously it was his fault, but Sora agreed to it. Didn't that make them both in trouble?

 

Sora sat his bags right by Roxas' before he too grabbed a seat, sitting near his friend. They had no choice now but to stick together. Since they had already both tried to place the blame on each other and failed, sticking together was their only option.

 

Kairi walked into the kitchen only, again, to find silence. The boys really must have felt guilty for they'd done. She walked around the island and stopped in front of them, reaching across the marbled countertop to grab one of the bags. "Okay, tell me what happened," she said, glancing at both boys as she pulled out the tomato sauce.

Roxas rested his elbows against the island, ruffling the side of his hair. "Um... It was really my idea to actually do the whole thing, but..." He paused, not sure on how Kairi would react to hearing the game they played. "...We raced around the store on our carts."

 

"While getting the groceries," Sora inserted, letting Kairi know technically, they did do the work they were expected to complete. Even though Roxas had sort of taken the blame at the start, Sora knew he would still get punished either way, so he would at least stick up for his friend while he could.

 

Kairi looked up from the bag in front of her, eyes wide. "You did what?" she asked, shocked. They...rode grocery carts around the store? It took them nearly three hours to do that?

Roxas held a sheepish grin against his face. "Yeah... It was harmless...kinda." They had yet to mention the information regarding the crash in one of the aisles, and where their racing had gotten them pretty much chased out of the store.

 

"Nobody got hurt," Sora said, knowing that was probably something Kairi would think about. Actually, he and Roxas were really lucky that was the case; they were being pretty careless back in the store.

 

Kairi pressed her lips together, nodding. That was something she had been thinking of, so thankfully nothing bad had happened to them. "You guys didn't break anything, did you?" she asked with an arched eyebrow, looking from one boy to the other.

Roxas sheepishly smiled, rubbing the back of his head. "Uh, well..." He looked up at Kairi before glancing over toward Sora. His eyes located Kairi again, and he could see her eyes beginning to widen.

 

Sora brought a hand to the back of his head, running it over his spikes as he stared down at the table. Kairi was about to freak out...he could feel it. Or maybe that was just what he assumed. He hoped it wouldn't happen, but she did have a reason to be upset...

 

Kairi set the items in the bag down on the marble countertop of the island, eyes big. "What did you two do?" she asked, shock and fear evident in her voice. By the way they were leaving her to hang like this was enough to tell her something had happened.

Roxas bit his lip before giving in. "It was just a tiny, tiny crash into the shelf," he confessed. "It really wasn't that big of a deal, we swear!" What happened after was something completely different.

 

Sora nodded and looked up, agreeing with Roxas' assessment. "And we fixed everything right away," he said. "There really was no harm done...honest!"

 

"You crashed into a shelf?" Kairi asked, hearing their promises but paying most attention to that detail. So there hadn't been any damage done, but the fact still surprised her. "You didn't do anything else reckless, did you guys?" she asked, looking at them with expecting eyes. She had this feeling that something else did happen, but she wasn't sure she wanted to hear it.

Roxas sighed, scratching his head as he stared at the counter. "It's actually a pretty funny story," he said, glancing up with a small smile. How they had gotten away like that was still humorous, and a little unbelievable.

 

Sora felt a weak smile appear on his lips. Yes, it was humorous, but would Kairi see it that way? He certainly hoped so. "We were leaving the store in a hurry and...well, we were chased out," he said with a sheepish smile.

 

Kairi felt one corner of her lip turn up ever so slightly. "You were chased out? What'd you do?" she asked.

"It was my fault," Roxas said with a small laugh. "Um... I kinda knocked over a pyramid formation of cans..." He felt his smile grow a little, the boy finding the situation quite funny. Hopefully Kairi would see it that way; he didn't really want to get in trouble, even if he did kind of deserve it.

 

Sora couldn't help but chuckle at Roxas' words. It hadn't been too comedic at the time, but it was a good laugh now. He felt that way, at least, and he knew Roxas did too. But Kairi...did she?

 

Kairi brought a hand to her mouth. "How did you manage to do that?" she asked, her voice showing that she wanted to laugh. But she was scolding them for making her wait, which was right for them. But maybe they had gone through enough trouble...

Roxas let out a few laughs when Sora did, the boy looking up at the redhead in front of him. "We were racing again, this time on foot. And I slipped a little..." He grinned, his gaze falling on his best friend beside him. He could tell Sora found it funny, and by the looks of it, he thought Kairi did too. But he couldn't be so sure.

 

"And then one of the employees just started freaking out!" Sora said, laughing now. "We had to high-tail it outta there before he completely exploded." He was starting to notice that Kairi was finding this humorous, and that made him feel a bit more at ease. Well, at ease enough to laugh, anyway.

 

Kairi released a few laughs behind closed lips, struggling to keep in her laughter. But the boys' story was just to funny! She let her hand fall as she started laughing. "Are you serious?" she asked through her laughter, picturing the whole thing.

Roxas nodded, chuckling. "Yeah," he answered. He was glad to see that she was laughing now. That meant that a good amount of the tension was gone...for now, maybe.

 

Sora chuckled and nodded. Yes, it was all a true story, and he was glad that Kairi found it as funny as he and Roxas did. After all, it was kind of hard not to laugh at...at least, he thought so.

 

Kairi chuckled for a few seconds before shaking her head. "Wow, you two really know how to get yourselves in a mess, don't you?" She looked at both of them, no longer feeling as angry as she was before. They'd gone through enough.

Roxas shrugged, chuckling a little as he looked to Sora. He guessed they did, after what happened today.
