Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return

"Almost five," Sora said with wide eyes. He and Roxas had been shopping much longer than he thought....Man, I'm in for it, he thought, expecting Kairi to be a tad upset about him being so late.

 

Roxas made a face, obviously showing that the news was discomforting. "Yeah, we better get going," he said. Kairi was probably going to angry at both of them, since she sent Roxas to get Sora and the both of them to get groceries near almost two hours ago.

 

Sora brought himself off the wall and nodded. "Right," he said in agreement, the teen wandering to the street corner. He saw they had an "okay" from a sign and he walked across the road, trusting Roxas would be behind him.

 

After following Sora across the crosswalk, it had been only a few moments before Roxas found himself on Kairi's street. He carried the grocery bags with care in his hands and walked alongside his friend. They'd gotten here faster than the duration it had taken to get to the store, mostly because they were walking faster; they were kind of...late.

Kairi sat on her couch, arms and legs crossed as her eyes were glued to the television. However, every once in a while she couldn't help but glance out the window only to notice that it kept getting darker and darker. Where were those boys? It had been over two hours since she had sent Roxas off, no doubt with Sora as well.

 

Sora looked over his shoulder as he walked, the teen having noticed they were pretty close to Kairi's house now. "For the record, I blame you for us being so late," he said with a smirk.

 

Roxas turned to Sora, eyes wide for a second before he saw his friend's smirk. "Oh really?" he asked, arching an eyebrow. Of course he knew what for, but he was curious to know what Sora was going to tell Kairi about this whole thing.

 

"Of course," Sora said with a grin, turning to look forward again. "She'll be angry, so I'll have her kick your butt before she kicks mine." He chuckled at a thought, his smile widening. "Think of it as my reward for winning the competition today."

 

Roxas smirked. "You think so, huh?" He switched the bag in his right hand to his left, eyes on Sora. He then threw his right arm around Sora's neck, bending the boy down as Roxas curved his arm toward his chest. "What do you think now?" Roxas wondered, his smirk growing. "Anything changed?"

 

"Hey!" Sora protested, unable to escape Roxas. "What do you think you're doing?! I've still won!" he cried out in defiance. He tried to move the bags in his hands, but he couldn't because of the grip his friend had on him.

 

Roxas turned onto the path toward Kairi's home, Sora tucked under his arm. "Hmm..." he started, looking toward the sky before smiling down at his friend. "I think this is much better for me. You know, since I have you trapped and all, it'll be easier for Kairi to get to you first."

 

Sora's eyes widened at the remark as he was forced toward Kairi's house. "That's not cool, man!" he cried, trying harder to break free. But that was impossible as long as he had those shopping bags in his hands, and he couldn't set them down in fear they would get damaged...then Kairi really would kick his butt.

 

Roxas laughed as he took Sora up the porch steps. "Bragging only brings problems, Sora," he stated with a smile. "I guess this is yours." He reached Kairi's door and rang the doorbell with the hand holding the shopping bags, the boy being careful with them as he held Sora in a strict headlock.

Kairi's eyes immediately darted toward the direction of the door, the girl pushing herself up from the couch. She hoped it was the boys, considering the sun was setting now.

 

"I won though!" Sora protested frantically. He had to get out of this...before Kairi came to answer the door. "I'm supposed to get a prize, not....this!"

 

Roxas started laughing at his squirmy friend, enjoying this moment, as unfair as it was. He looked down at Sora as he laughed, waiting for Kairi to answer her front door. He wondered what she would think when she saw the two of them like this. Surprised, and maybe confused, most likely.

Kairi approached the door, her ears picking up on laughing. She opened the door at both curiosity and because she recognized that laughter. When she spotted the boys, her eyes widened. Roxas had Sora in a headlock, and he seemed to find it amusing. "What...?" she tried.

Roxas looked up, laughter and amusement in his eyes. "Special delivery!" he said to Kairi with a laugh, still holding the squirming Sora.

 

Sora's eyes wandered from Roxas to Kairi, a sheepish look appearing on his face. She was confused by all this...but she looked amused too, by the look in her eye. "H-hi," he stuttered, his cheeks starting to turn red. This is embarrassing...

 

Kairi covered her mouth, letting one giggle slip. "What...are you guys doing?" she asked, amusement in her tone, the girl having to pause to keep from laughing.

Roxas kept Sora in the headlock, trying to come up with an answer to her question. But as the silence went on, he could see that Kairi was beginning to forget about the humor in this moment. Her eyes were showing her realization. "Um...well..." he began, glancing down at Sora.

Kairi remembered that it had been nearly 3 hours ago that she had sent the two on a little shopping trip, which should have taken a little over an hour at most. She let her hand fall and placed both of her hands on her hips, looking down at the two seriously, most of her amusement gone. "And just where have you two been? I asked you to go hours ago, and you're just now getting back?"

 

Sora's eyes widened. "Roxas was too busy fooling around," Sora said innocently, his blue eyes wandering down to the arm that had him in a headlock before they went back to Kairi. Sorry for selling you out, man, but trust me, you won't get in nearly as much trouble as I would have. That is, if Kairi believes me...

 

"Oh?" Kairi looked from Sora to Roxas, expecting an explanation. She believed she deserved one after having to wait so long.

"Er..." Roxas diverted his gaze from Kairi's, his eyes immediately narrowing in on Sora. Sora... he thought; his tone would have been one of warning if he were speaking aloud. Roxas's blue eyes then located Kairi again, the boy coming up with something. "Sora went along with it!" he cried, pointing to his best friend tucked under his arm.

 

Now it was Sora's turn to hesitate. "Umm..." he trailed off, eyes wandering to the ground. He shrugged out of Roxas' hold and moved back to stand next to his friend, not daring to look up into Kairi's upset eyes.

 

Kairi noticed that the boys were being quiet for a reason, and she was a little afraid to find out exactly what they had been doing. "Come on inside," she insisted, stepping out of the way. "You can tell me about it while I put away the groceries."

Roxas nodded mutely, grasping onto the bags a little tighter before stepping through the door. He then proceeded to make his way to the kitchen.
