Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return

Sora set his last item on the belt and then brought a hand to the back of his head, running it over his spikes as he gazed at the ground. He was shocked nobody had caught him and Roxas for their disruption of the peaceful store earlier. Shocked...and relieved. Certainly neither of their girlfriends would have been pleased to hear about what happened in the store today. Sora certainly wasn't going to tell Kairi about it.

 

Roxas listened to the beeping of the scanner as he dug the money needed out of his wallet. The price was adding up and he was positive Kairi gave him enough. Once the cashier told him the charge, he handed the money to her and waited for his change.

 

Sora casually crossed his arms and looked up, watching Roxas pay the cashier. Well, part one is done, he mused to himself. Now for the delivery. He still wasn't sure what he'd say to Kairi--it was only then that he remembered why he was shopping in the first place. But he didn't dwell on it. The words would come to him when he got to Kairi's...he hoped.

 

Roxas nodded to the woman after she handed back his change and wished him a good day, the boy stuffing the money into his wallet and then his pocket. He glanced at Sora, smiled, and then pushed his cart forward, which was full of their groceries.

 

Sora returned Roxas' smile with one of his own and moved to follow his friend, pushing his empty cart in front of him. He saw an area with empty carts nearby and he took two steps over as he walked, leaving the cart along with the rest before walking more quickly to catch up with Roxas.

 

Roxas watched Sora drop off his cart out of the corner of his eye, but then he stopped. "Wait a second," he said softly. "I just got an idea." He wasn't sure how it would work, or why it would be a good idea. It came up, nonetheless.

 

Sora chuckled, looking at his friend in amusement. "Another one?" he asked with a smirk. Roxas was already responsible for their shopping-race earlier...what else could he have possibly come up with?

 

Roxas turned his head to look ahead, seeing that they had to travel a good ten yards and take a turn to reach the sliding doors and exit the market. His eyes fell on his friend again and he smiled. "One more race," he said. "This one determines the real winner."

 

Sora laughed, crossing his arms in front of him. "You just wanna race again so you can win," he teased playfully, holding Roxas' stare. Roxas knew Sora was faster than him, but he was too prideful to let go of a chance to beat the brunette. And Sora was too competitive to say no to this new opportunity.

 

Roxas's smile turned into a smirk. "Grab your cart," he said simply, backing his up a little so they would have a longer distance to race. Roxas wasn't dumb; he knew that he would probably lose this. Sora was too fast, but Roxas was too proud. He wanted to win this, and would try his hardest, just like every other time.

 

Sora brought a hand to the back of his head, actually concerned that this could be dangerous. "...You sure you don't wanna just have us each carry the bags instead?" he asked. That would be better than having carts and it would probably make things more interesting if they had to be more careful with their items.

 

Roxas paused, leaning his arms against the handlebar of his cart. He furrowed his brows as he took Sora's words into consideration. "...Maybe," he said in slight agreement. "Plus, Kairi would be really mad at us if we ruined her ingredients right after we bought them..."

 

"She would be," Sora agreed, nodding faintly. Though doing the race with carts would have been more fun, it also would have been pretty dangerous. Besides, they'd have to return the carts at the end of it, and he hadn't seen a place for carts outside the building.

 

Roxas took a second more to think about it before nodding with a faint smile. "On foot it is," he said, going around his cart to grab the bags of groceries.

 

Sora smiled and followed Roxas' lead, going over to the second side of the cart. He was careful to not select the bag with eggs--he'd let Roxas worry about that one. He smiled more widely and grabbed two of the four bags, the teen already excited for the race.

 

Once the cart was empty, Roxas held his two bags in one hand and pushed the cart over to where Sora had left his, among the other carts. He then came back to where Sora was standing, glancing around the store to see that their cashier passed a glimpse at them before carrying on with someone in line.

 

Sora stood and looked toward the exit, the boy subconsciously wrapping the handles of his bags around his hand a few times so he had a secure hold. If something went wrong, then he would have to explain to Kairi how they were careless and overly competitive. He was determined not to let that happen.

 

Roxas stopped next to Sora. He realized that Sora left him with the bag holding the eggs. Typical, he thought, rolling his eyes with an amused smile. Roxas lifted that bag up, placing it under his arm, his hand securely holding onto the carton at the bottom of the bag. The other bag he turned a couple times, gripping the twisted part of the plastic bag.

 

Out of the corner of his eye, Sora noticed Roxas' annoyed yet amused expression. The brunette figured he must have discovered the egss, and he couldn't help but turn his head and give Roxas a sheepish grin.

 

Roxas met Sora's gaze and shook his head, a few amused chuckles leaving him. He faced forward again and placed his right foot behind him. "You ready?" he asked his best friend, feeling like there were a pair of eyes on him. He knew that Sora's weren't the only ones, though.
