Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return

"Don't chya mean stuff we need to get?" Sora asked, smirking over at his best friend. Since Roxas had dragged him into this, it was the two of them who needed to get the food items, not just Roxas. He casually held out the list for Roxas, having seen all that they needed.

 

Roxas chuckled, taking the list from Sora and placing it back in his pocket. "Right," he agreed with a nod. They were only a few blocks away from the nearest store, so it wouldn't take long to arrive.

 

Sora smiled and stuffed his hands in his pockets, facing forward again as they got closer to the nearby store. It was only a little further now...they'd be there soon.

 

Roxas let the silence seep in, finding it comfortable instead of awkward. He let the breeze cool him off from the summer heat, his bangs being pushed in front of and then out of his blue eyes. A part of him wondered what Namine was doing, hoping she wasn't scolding her dog. For both Ty's sake and hers, the boy knowing if she needed to even yell at the dog then she had to clean up something.

 

Namine set down her bucket of water, a sigh escaping her lips. And then she suddenly thought of Roxas, who was probably wondering if she made it home alright. She pulled out her cell phone and typed in a text. "Ty made a mess :'(. Took FOREVER to clean." She sent it and then shoved her phone back in her pocket, taking the dirty cleaning rags to the kitchen.

 

Roxas heard his phone ring in his pocket and he dug it out, flipping it open to notice a text from Namine. He read it with interest and his eyes softened as he smiled weakly, feeling bad for the girl. He proceeded to text her back. "Aw, man. Sorry, Nam. ):" Ty... That dog wouldn't do that just to spite her; he must have really had to go.

 

Namine felt her phone vibrate and she pulled it out, having set down the items she had been carrying. She smiled weakly at Roxas' response. "He's too cute to be mad at. ):" She sent the text to Roxas, flipping the phone shut in her hands.

 

Roxas opened his phone again, reading the message on the screen. He then replied, "Lol. (:" He watched as the message was sent and he flipped his phone closed, stuffing it back in his pocket. When he looked back up, Roxas noticed that the store was just ahead.

 

Namine read Roxas' message, a soft laugh leaving her lips before she looked back down at the guilty dog. She sighed and shook her head, finishing with cleaning up the last of his mess.

Sora caught onto the store and blinked, having lost track of where he was while he walked. He had been preoccupied, thinking about what he could say to Kairi to get her to be less worried about him. He shoved a hand in his pocket, leaving those thoughts behind.

 

Roxas saw the store and approached it with Sora alongside him. He took out the list again as he arrived at the doors, scanning over it to see how many items they needed to get. But he couldn't help but notice that Sora was awfully quiet. Roxas needed to come up with something to make this easier on his friend.

 

Sora decided he would just hope that he knew the right things to say when he saw Kairi later. Of course he knew that this wasn't just a shopping trip; he would have to take the stuff to her. And she'd probably ask if he was alright. How was he supposed to answer to that? He was slightly bothered by what happened earlier, but not miserable over it. How would he get that across without worrying her...?

 

"Okay," Roxas started, looking up from the list. He stopped just inside the store, eyes flitting over the signs hanging up to direct them to the aisles. "We need to grab some vegetables and eggs, along with some flour, ham, and olive oil." Roxas looked over at Sora as soon as he finished, having just read off the list.

 

Again, Sora snapped out of his deep thinking, looking over at Roxas. He nodded slightly and looked around, seeing only one or two people in view. "Wow, this place is empty," he thought aloud. People are probably chilling at home, or at the public pool, not shopping, he considered, folding his arms across his chest.

 

Roxas nodded and spotted the carts nearby. He wandered over to them and put his hands on the handbar before he stopped, freezing. He suddenly got an idea--one that would be ridiculous, stupid, but hilarious at the same time. Roxas glanced over his shoulder at Sora before he motioned to his friend. "Grab a cart," he instructed with a smile. "We've got some shopping to do."

 

Sora arched a brow slightly, wondering why in the world they would need two carts to get all the items on Kairi's list. And why was Roxas suddenly looking at him like that? He thought over the questions, but he silently obeyed instead of asking aloud, walking over toward Roxas and grabbing a cart for himself.

 

Roxas rolled the cart out, pushing it a little toward the direction they needed to go. Then he turned his head to the right and left, making sure nobody was coming. Sure enough, the place was almost completely deserted.

 

Sora eyed the store when Roxas did, a confused expression still on his face. His friend was acting strange, and Sora had no clue why that was.

 

Roxas smiled to himself and turned to look at Sora, hands positioned on the cart. "How about a little race?" he inquired, the idea having just come to him moments ago. He figured it would cheer Sora up, considering his Somebody was competitive, just like him. Maybe they could have some fun with this...

 

Sora arched a brow and crossed his arms across his chest, a bewildered yet amused expression coming onto his face. "A race?" he repeated. How in the world would they have a race in the store?

 

Roxas nodded. "Yup. Race through the store and try to grab the items on this list," he explained, holding said piece of paper up to Sora. "It'll be more...interesting that way." Roxas offered his best friend a silly smile, wanting to try and cheer him up.
