Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return

After the cool shower, Sora had sat down on the couch and started watching TV. But it couldn't hold his interested, and eventually he let himself fall asleep, taking a small nap on the living room furniture.

 

Roxas walked along the sidewalk, seeing that the sun had lowered in the sky, which told him it was late in the afternoon. He flipped his phone open, noticing that he was indeed right. At the same time he noticed no missed calls or texts from Namine, so he hoped she was alright. Probably just taking care of Ty, he thought, able to see Sora's house up ahead.

 

Sora naturally woke up--well, as natural as possible when he heard the sound of gunshots coming from program on the television. He rolled off the couch in surprise and clicked the power button on the remote, which had somehow ended up right next to him. When he heard nothing, he sighed. It was only the show; there was no danger.

 

Roxas walked up the path to Sora's home and approached the door, knocking on it a few times in hopes his friend would hear. He wondered what Sora would think when he found out he was getting dragged to the store.

 

Sora immediately turned toward the door, the teen ruffling his hair. He had no clue who would be at his door, so he straightened his khaki shorts and brown T-shirt before he headed over, his sleepiness leaving him quickly for some reason. He opened the door, surprised at who he saw. "Roxas?"

 

Roxas smiled. "Hey," he said with a wave. He could see Sora looked kind of tired, but he knew what would wake him up. "Come with me. We're going to the store." He took the list Kairi gave him and waved it at his friend a little.

 

Sora looked at the list, not confused because of his sleepiness, but because of Roxas' sudden statement. "We are?" he asked suspiciously, eying the list before he looked back at Roxas. Why in the world would we be going to the store...?

 

Roxas nodded. "Yup. Upon Kairi's request," he explained briefly. He smiled and slipped the list back in his pocket. "C'mon, get your shoes." The day was beautiful, and apparently Sora had been sleeping. Why waste away a gorgeous day on that?

 

Sora arched a brow, still standing in the doorway. "Kairi sent you over to force me into going to the store?" he asked, confused as to whether he was understanding this or not. It seemed pretty confusing and random to him...

 

Roxas shrugged with a guilty smile. "Doesn't matter. Just c'mon," he said, motioning with his arm for Sora to come outside. It was just a small trip to the store. Even so, this would hopefully cheer Sora up...if he was still upset, of course.

 

Sora crossed his arms, but he did step over slightly and slip on flip-flops. "So, why am I doing this again?" he asked, not really feeling like leaving the house no matter how beautiful the weather was outside.

 

"To cheer you up," Roxas said simply, turning his head when a car drove by, his eyes trailing it. He then turned back to Sora. "You need to keep yourself busy so you don't brood over everything bothering you." Roxas had learned, of course. That was why he always went for a jog, played his music, or took a walk around the city when he felt down in the dumps.

 

Sora frowned when he heard Roxas' statement. So, apparently Kairi had been concerned about him. He didn't like putting her in that position...ever. He was always the strong one. And he wasn't about to let that change. "I'm fine," Sora mumbled as he looked to the ground, bringing a hand up to rub the back of his spiky head.

 

Roxas stared at his friend, his eyebrows beginning to knit together. He crossed his arms, obviously not believing that statement. It showed on Sora's face that he was indeed not fine, and that he was dwelling on something. No doubt today's unfortunate event. Roxas couldn't blame him for thinking about it, but it was time to forget about it. At least for now.

 

Sora exhaled silently through his nose, shaking his head. "Well, let's get it over with," he muttered, stepping outside and pulling the door behind him. "What're we shopping for, anyway?" he asked, changing the subject before Roxas could ask him anything.

 

Roxas ignored the change in Sora's attitude and answered the question as he started down the path. "Kairi's making a dinner for her parents' homecoming," he explained. "She's busy with some other stuff, so she asked me to help her out, along with you."

 

"Ah," Sora responded, following Roxas. She had told me about that earlier...I think, he thought, trying to recall things other than what had happened previously that morning. Right; Kairi had told him almost a week ago that she was considering making dinner for them.

 

"Yup," Roxas replied with a nod. He reached into his pocket and glanced at the list in his hand. "That's why she gave me this." He held it out to Sora as he walked beside him, heading for the store. He skimmed it to see how much was really needed, but hadn't really examined it into detail.

 

Sora took the list out of Roxas' list and looked over it, seeing a variety of items. But what he saw that really stuck out to him was stuff for baking. He smiled faintly; Kairi always did make the best baked goods, especially cookies.

 

"I haven't really had a good look at it yet," Roxas explained casually, stuffing his hands in his pockets. "So I don't know what exactly I need to get. Just a few things I remembered were eggs, flour, and a few different vegetables, which I'm assuming are for dinner." Roxas glanced at Sora, seeing that he was reading over the list. He should probably do that as well.
