Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return

Namine smiled softly, noticing that Roxas appeared to feel some shyness. "Well, it's beautiful," she said again, feeling a bit awkward herself. Her eyes wandered down to the two mugs of hot chocolate sitting on the counter. "Are they ready?" she asked, changing the subject for Roxas's sake.

 

Roxas turned his body a little to follow her line of sight. He focused back on her, nodding. "Yup," he confirmed. He reached for the two mugs, holding them by their handles. He carefully offered one to Namine, watching as steam rose from the liquid.

 

Namine's hand touched Roxas's when she put her hand on the handle, her hand practically gripping hers. She started to blush, though she wasn't sure why. "Thanks," she said, mentally smacking herself for not coming up with anything else to say.

 

The contact made Roxas's heart jump slightly, but the small blush forming on Namine's cheeks caused a small smile to reach his lips. "You're welcome," he said warmly, slowly taking his hand back. His eyes were locked on hers, hypnotized by their sky-blue color. She had always had beautiful eyes, but he realized now that he never told her that enough.

 

Namine let out a shy giggle, eyes wandering to the hot chocolate she held now with two hands. Namine, you're insane! she told herself. You hardly even know this guy and yet you keep looking into his eyes like this? The blond girl ignored her thoughts, knowing she that regaining her memories wasn't the only thing she couldn't control; she couldn't control her heart, either. And if she felt comfortable around Roxas even without her memories...well, she was okay with that.

 

Roxas smiled softly at the sound of Namine's light laughter. It was always good to hear that, even if it was because of him...staring. He glanced down at the floor at the thought, but his eyes instantly found hers again. It was hard to ignore Namine's presence at all, mainly because he didn't want to. It's not like he could anyway--his heart wouldn't let him.

 

Namine's soft blue eyes wandered back up to Roxas' before they went back down to her beverage. She slowly lifted the cup to her lips and took a sip before lowering her hands, going back to her previous position. You're crazy...she told herself again, thinking of the emotions that were stirring in her heart.

 

Roxas blinked after a moment in realization. He probably wasn't making Namine feel very comfortable by just staring at her. He brought a fist near his mouth and cleared his throat, his sight darting to the side. "Um," he started uncertainly, "...I'm glad the clothes fit. I was hoping they wouldn't be too baggy on you." Great, that's the best you can come up with, Roxas? Ugh! The boy felt like he was in the flirting process all over again--and when it came to that, he was socially awkward.

 

Namine smiled weakly, noticing the awkward tone of voice Roxas had. She wasn't surprised by it--after all, she felt awkward around herself too. "Much better than wet jeans and a tank top," she said in agreement. "Roxas, I've been meaning to say something for a little while now..." she started, looking up at Roxas' face.

 

Roxas's eyes flicked back to Namine's face, an expression of curiosity taking over his features. "Yeah?" he gently encouraged. His casual grasp on his mug remained, the steam still rising from the hot chocolate.

 

Namine suddenly felt at a loss for words when she looked into Roxas' eyes. She held his gaze for a moment before snapping out of it, eyes wandering down to her hot chocolate and then back up again. "Um...I've been meaning to thank you for all that you've done for me today. With Jeff...and then bringing me back here and taking care of me...I...I mean..." she stopped herself, knowing that she needed to stop rambling and just come out and say it. "Thank you," she said, looking up into Roxas' ocean blue orbs again.

 

Roxas felt his lips spread into a gentle smile. "Of course, Namine," he said. "Why wouldn't I help you? We're...friends, right?" He tilted his head, his smile falling slightly. He tried to keep it there, despite the thoughts running through his head. Of course he loved that they were still friends after all of this, but he still loved her.

 

Namine smiled, bringing a hand away from her hot chocolate as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "Yeah...we are friends," she said confidently. Maybe someday we could be something more, she thought, her small smile widening a little bit more.

 

Roxas's smile spread without force, his eyes gazing directly into Namine's. "Good," he said with a nod. At least they were that much. He couldn't imagine life without somehow being included in hers.

 

Namine nodded slightly, a smile still staying on her lips. Her heart fluttered excited, the girl not exactly sure what was happening to her. She felt so...great. Even if she didn't have her memories. However, she was sure if she did have them at that moment, then things would have been perfect.

 

"So..." Roxas's eyes finally tore away from Namine's and wandered around the room. He looked back at her after a second, having come up with a pretty unoriginal but time consuming idea. "You wanna watch some TV or something? Or if you're hungry, I can fix you something..." She was a guest in his house, after all. It was only proper to act like a good host.

 

Namine nodded once more, the small smile staying on her lips. "I could eat something," she said softly. Right after she finished saying the word "something", a loud rumble of thunder broke her out of her peaceful mood. Her eyes wandered slightly and then she saw a lightning bolt out the window behind Roxas. And then...the power suddenly went out.

 

Roxas's gaze instantly darted up to the ceiling once the lights gave out. "Ah, not this again," he groaned. He turned and set his mug back on the counter, remembering how close it had been to him before. He faced Namine again, or...where she would be if he could see her. There was only a dim light coming through the windows, providing limited illumination.

 

Namine was now blind and confused, not a good combination. "Again?" she asked. She held onto her mug tightly, not allowing herself to panic just because there was a bad storm outside and things weren't so good inside the house either.

 

"Yeah," Roxas said in the darkness. "This has happened once or twice before." There was another strike of lightning, followed immediately by a boom of thunder. It was always his neighborhood that had blackouts. He just didn't understand...
