Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return

Namine opened her eyes more, still looking right in front of her. "Won't that keep you up, though?" she asked. "Just because I can't sleep doesn't mean that you have to stay awake, too," she said softly. It would be unfair to expect him to be sleep deprived because of her, and she definitely didn't want that to happen.

 

Roxas shook his head with a small, comforting smile. "No. I'm still sleepy, so I think it'll be okay," he assured her. He loved that she cared, but she was the one in trouble here. He wanted what was best for her, and a distraction was most likely the best thing right now.

 

"Okay," Namine said softly, shutting her eyes again. She wasn't going to go against Roxas; He would have been honest if the television would have kept him awake.

 

Roxas's small smile faded away as he turned his head, happy that his free hand was on the side closest to the remote. He picked it off the end table next to the arm of the couch and pressed a button, turning the television on for Namine to watch.

 

Namine exhaled a silent breath and opened her eyes partway, seeing a picture appear on the screen. She didn't care what the program was. In fact, she almost wanted to hear music. That always soothed her soul in a strange way.

 

Roxas held the remote and offered it to Namine. "Here," he said softly. "Watch anything you like." Meanwhile, he was going to get some more rest. But he wasn't going to leave Namine's side, not after her story. The last thing he wanted to do was leave...

 

Namine nodded slightly and took her hand off of Roxas' arm, gently taking the remote from him. She was sure there wasn't much on at...3:34 in the morning, but as long as the sounds of the TV distracted her, she was fine.

 

Once the remote was free from Roxas's hand, he let it fall and rest in his lap. The boy glanced at the clock and then closed his eyes, exhaling softly as he tried to return to sleep. But he squeezed Namine's hand before that completely happened, letting her know she had his support.

 

A few days later...

Sora was just walking out to his mailbox one morning, not paying much attention to the traffic on the street as he thought about the recent past. The past few days he had been with Kairi quite a bit, helping her overcome the fear from the movie she had seen. But from what he could tell, the scary movie was no longer affecting her, thank goodness. He opened the mailbox and pulled out some letters, most junk, but one without a return address looking important for some reason.

 

Roxas opened the door to the bathroom, stepping out into the upstairs hallway as steam came from the room. He ran the towel in his hands over his damp, spiky hair, fully dressed in dark jeans and a red t-shirt. The past couple days had been rough. He'd talked to Namine every night before bed, and spent time with her during the day, helping her cope with the new problem at hand. He texted her when he woke up, and got in the shower shortly after. He was planning to eat some breakfast, and hoped that after that everybody could hang out together, to keep things as optimistic as possible.

 

Sora didn't want to open something important while standing right by the road, though. With his luck, the wind the traffic created would blow it away. He shut the mailbox with his free hand and then headed inside, the teen getting there pretty quickly due to the short distance from the mailbox to the house. He stepped into the living room and set the rest of the mail down on an end-table and opened up the important letter carefully. Then he gingerly unfolded it and started to read.

 

Roxas descended the stairs and approached the laundry room. He tossed his towel in the dirty clothes hamper before turning back around and heading for the kitchen. He ran his hand through his nearly dry spikes as he turned into the room from the hallway, reaching the cupboards and pulling out a bowl for some cereal.

 

It didn't take long for Sora to finish the letter, even though he did read through it three times to fully comprehend what it was saying. His hand immediately went into his jean pocket, the teen pulling out his cell phone. He really didn't like what he was reading, and his first instinct was to call his best friend. He flipped it open and speed-dialed Roxas, lifting the phone to his ear as he held the letter in front of him with his left hand.

 

Roxas heard his phone begin to ring in his pocket and he set the bowl down on the counter as he dug his hand into his jeans. He pulled the device out to see that it was Sora calling him. He brought the phone to his ear. "What's up, man?" he greeted casually, walking across his kitchen to get the cereal.

 

"Hey. You busy today?" Sora asked, not bringing up the letter right away. It wasn't something they could discuss over the phone; The brunet definitely wanted to have this serious discussion in person. He was sure that Roxas would understand that when he found out what was going on.

 

Roxas grabbed the cereal box and went back to set it next to the bowl. "Not right now," he replied into the phone. "Why do you ask?" He held the phone to his ear with his left hand as he approached and opened the fridge to grap some milk.

 

"You care if I come over right now?" Sora asked, not answering Roxas' question. He'd explain as soon as he got there, if he needed to. The letter was pretty much explanation enough, in his eyes.

 

"Sure," Roxas answered, stopping next to the counter. "See you in a few minutes." He took in the tone of Sora's voice, noticing that his question went unanswered. Roxas supposed he'd find out soon enough.

 

"Bye," Sora said into the phone, flipping it shut. He stuffed it back into his pocket and then carefully folded the letter, placing it in his back pocket. He then pulled his black shirt over top of it, knowing he wouldn't lose the letter now. He tried not to think about things too deeply as he headed out the front door, toward Roxas home.

 

Roxas flipped his phone shut when the connection ended and slipped it back into his pocket. He then proceeded to fill his bowl with cereal, taking the milk back to the fridge before he took the bowl to the table to eat. He wasn't sure what was going on, but Sora seemed a little...urgent. It made him question a few things, but he decided to let it go until Sora arrived.
