Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return

From her side of the couch, Namine shrugged. She hadn't seen either movie, so it didn't matter to her what they watched. Whatever was less scary...That was what she wanted.

"You pick," Sora said, lifting his hand off Kairi's shoulder in a shrug type movement. He didn't care either way, so he'd just let Roxas chose whatever he thought was best.

 

Kairi nodded in agreement. As long as they weren't too frightening, she was fine.

Roxas shrugged. "Okay." He turned his attention back to the DVD's in front of him and picked one from the Scream series. They were older, which meant they weren't as scary.

 

Namine held her hands in her lap, her eyes on the television screen above Roxas. Please don't let it be too scary...she thought, planning for the worst.

 

Roxas took the DVD out of its case and placed it in the player, pressing the button for the movie to actually start. "Sora," he started, closing the case and putting it by the television, on the entertainment system, "I'm pretty sure you'll think this one is cheesy." He turned around with a goofy smile. Roxas knew how cheesy and incredibly un-scary this movie was. The girls...he wasn't so sure about.

 

Sora rolled his eyes at the comment. "Oh, great," he said sarcastically, a grin appearing on his lips. Just when he was in the mood for something scary, too. Normally he wasn't huge on horror films, but he liked them on rare occasions.

 

Roxas shrugged. "I guess it's kinda scary. But you'll probably think it's just a tad on the weak side," he explained as he grabbed the remote and took a seat next to Namine. "That's what I thought of it, anyway. A bit jumpy too, I guess."

Kairi wasn't sure what Roxas's opinions on the movie meant for her. If it wasn't that scary to him, would it be a little better for her as well? Or did that mean she would be just as scared as before?

 

"Well," Sora started, turning his head to face his best friend. "I guess I'll find out soon enough," he said with a smirk. It would be interesting to see if he agreed with his friend's analysis or not.

Namine looked back and forth between the boys conversation, catching onto Roxas' comment about things being a bit jumpy. She was sure she would be pretty jumpy...She never did handle these movies extremely well.

 

Roxas nodded slightly at his friend's words before turning his attention to the television, turning it on and switching the video mode. The title screen was already up, so he hit the play button and let the movie unfold.

Kairi bit her lip a little, not sure what to think on this movie. Roxas chose something that wasn't too scary, but he said it was jumpy...and she wasn't sure what to make out of that.

Roxas watched as the credits rolled on the screen, his head turning to look at his friends. He couldn't see Namine's face, so he wasn't sure how she was doing after the movie. During the movie, however, he had seen her jump and he pulled her close, wrapping his arm around her shoulders. But he was unaware of how she was now. As for Kairi, well, her head was in Sora's shoulder somewhat, but her eyes were on the screen. She'd yelped a few times in surprise during the film, and he had caught himself smirking a little in amusement as they watched the movie.

Kairi was relieved to see that this movie was finally over, the girl exhaling softly. That wasn't as bad as the one she had previously watched, and she had been thinking of the comparison during the film, which was why she had been so tense and jumped at the parts that were...well...jumpy, as Roxas described it.

 

As the credits rolled, Sora looked down at the girl in his arms. During the ending of the movie, which had been a bit more frightening than the rest, he had wrapped both arms around her. The icepack behind his shoulder was gone...probably buried into the corner of the couch. But it didn't matter--his shoulder was fine, and he was pleased to hold Kairi in both arms.

Namine had both her arms wrapped around Roxas and her head in his shoulder a little bit as her timid eyes looked at the screen. She had been pretty scared during the movie...In fact, she still was a bit afraid. Hadn't Roxas said it would have been less scary than the other? If it was, it wasn't by much.

 

Roxas chuckled a little as he pressed a button on the remote, setting it down on the arm of the couch. "You girls okay?" he asked, looking down at the girl he was holding and the other that his best friend had his arms wrapped around. They hadn't let go yet, and he guessed he could take that as an answer.

"...Define okay," Kairi said softly. "Okay as in, 'I'm fine'. Or okay as in, 'Sora's going to have to stay over for the next few days'?" She was being serious, not liking the way she had been tricked, if this was a joke at all. That movie was not just jumpy--it was just as scary as the last one. Maybe a little less, but that didn't mean much to her.

 

"I agree with Kairi's question," Namine inserted quietly, keeping her head in Roxas' shoulders and arms tightly around him. Maybe that wasn't the scariest movie on the face of the planet, but it successfully frightened her. That wasn't saying much, since she was naturally jumpy with some things, but still...

Sora looked down at the girl in his arms, his eyes softening. "Was it that bad?" he asked gently, keeping Kairi in his embrace. He hadn't thought the movie was scaring her that bad, but apparently he had been wrong.

 

Kairi kept her cheek pressed against the fabric of Sora's shirt. "It was close to the last movie we watched, if that says enough," she replied. The thought of the movie now and the movie then made her grasp tighten somewhat on the front of Sora's shirt. She was naturally scared of movies like this, and she didn't like the dark. The combination wasn't the best, and thankfully it was still light outside.

Roxas rubbed Namine's shoulder. "Sorry about that," he said with a weak smile. "I guess you two aren't very fond of a guy running around in a black outfit while wearing a creepy white mask." He felt his small smile grow a little, but it was subtle. He looked up at Sora and wondered if he thought the same of it as Roxas did, remembering what he had told his friend before the movie.

 

Sora felt a gaze on him and he turned his head toward his best friend again. Judging by the look on his face, Roxas wanted to know what Sora thought of the movie. He gave the blond a small smile; it really hadn't scared him all that much. Just like Roxas said, it was a little cheesy at points.

Namine shut her eyes, staying in the same position she was already in. She didn't want to let go...Ever. That movie had scared her pretty bad, and she wondered if she would actually get nightmares from this one.

 

Kairi sighed slightly, looking up and seeing Sora's chin. It was good enough. "I thought you said to pick out something that wasn't as scary?" she said, her eyebrows lifting in confusion. She didn't know what had happened, but that movie didn't seem like it was "less scary" to her.

Roxas heard Kairi's words after reading Sora's expression and looked at her. By the question, he could tell she was rather...peeved with the movie choice. Whoops...

 

"...I didn't think it was that scary," Sora confessed, grinning awkwardly at the girl in his arms. "But just remember...Roxas is the one who picked out the movie," he joked, hoping to get her mind off of things that would frighten her.

Namine stayed silent...She didn't know what to say. The movie had left her pretty speechless and naturally frightened. She knew at that moment that she would request to stay with Roxas for the night...Her house would be too empty and frighting for her to feel at ease.

 

Kairi bit her lip, staring at Sora's shirt. Her back was to Roxas at the moment, so she couldn't give him the "explain yourself" look.

Roxas shrugged a little, aware Namine's head was still on his shoulder. He let one of his hands rest on Namine's arm over his stomach, his eyes looking to all three of his friends. "You guys are welcome to stay," he offered. "It's only the middle of the afternoon, but I'm sure you won't be too excited when night rolls around, right?" He saw Kairi nod, and he knew he was correct.

 

Namine nodded wordless, subconsciously tightening her grip around Roxas. Just the thought of nightfall...She shivered slightly, both at the thought and because Roxas' air conditioning kept the house pretty cold. She had been unaware of it up to this point because she had been distracted.

"We may just have to take you up on that offer," Sora said, smiling faintly. "I don't think Kairi'll let go enough for me to move anytime soon," he said jokingly, his smile growing wider. Of course, he didn't really want Kairi to let go either. Even if the circumstances weren't the best, he loved holding her and her holding onto him.

 

Roxas chuckled at his friend's words, nodding. "Alright. Parents are out of town, so it's no big deal," he stated. He looked down at the girl in his arms, still rubbing her shoulder. He then felt his stomach grumble a little. "Does everybody want a late lunch? It's been a while since we ate."

Kairi recognized that the conversation was steering away from the movie, and she was very grateful. "I am pretty hungry," she admitted, paying attention to the emptiness of her stomach as she held onto Sora. She appreciated that he wrapped both arms around her; it made her feel safe.
