Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return

Sora felt a gaze on him and he looked over to find Kairi's soft blue eyes on him. He saw the weak smile and formed one of his own to match it. "Come sit next to me?" he requested gently, the silent request transferring through his heart.

 

Kairi felt her small smile grow a little at the words that impacted her heart, and she nodded wordlessly. She took a step forward before sitting beside the boy she loved, looking up at him once she was comfortable and offering him a comforting smile.

Roxas looked at his two friends but then turned his head, not wanting to be rude. His eyes immediately found Namine and he smiled warmly. He was relieved that nothing had happened to her; he would have been devastated if something had.

 

Sora's weak smile grew at bit at Kairi's, the girl's mere presence making his heart feel warmer. He saw her hand sitting on the couch near his and he reached out and lightly grabbed it, his eyes following the motion.

Namine had a small smile on her face when she saw Sora's simple display of affection. Those two...they were invincible. They made it through anything life threw at them, and she knew this time wasn't goign to be an exception. She felt a gaze on her and she shifted her gaze to Roxas, who was smiling at her. The smile that she returned was equal in size; she was glad that things were alright now. They were away from the creepy place and Sora could recover here.

 

Kairi gazed down at the hand that now held hers, the girl feeling her smile remain on her lips. She was thankful for that, after everything that had occurred today. She lightly squeezed Sora's hand, looking back up at his face.

Roxas took a few steps over toward Namine until he was standing beside her. He then turned around a little bit to gaze at his two friends on his couch. They seemed to be having a moment, so he decided he would let them continue it in private. "We'll give you two some space," he offered with a small smile. It only seemed right, especially after the emotions he had seen on Kairi's face for the past couple days.

 

Sora lifted his head and met Roxas' gaze, a bit of embarrassment coming through his expression. He had nearly forgotten that Roxas and Namine were still there. "Thanks," he said quietly, referring to his offer and how he had helped him that day. He was truly grateful for a friend who knew exactly what to do in tough situations.

Namine smiled softly, that being the first word she heard Sora speak since they left the rink. She was glad he wasn't upset with Roxas for not letting him walk; he probably realized that he wouldn't have been able to make it on his own.

 

Kairi smiled at Roxas, nodding in agreement with Sora's gratitude. She appreciated the offer, and would take him up on it. She hadn't seen the boy she loved in days, and she would like some time alone with him.

Roxas nodded. "No problem," he replied with the same smile. He looked at his friends for another moment before he turned to the blonde beauty beside him. He offered her his hand, motioning with his head toward the door. It was time they left their friends alone.

 

Namine smiled softly at Roxas' gesture and she slid her hand lightly into his. She gave her friends one last supportive smile before she started out, wanting to give her friends all the privacy they needed.

 

Roxas walked with Namine and approached the front door, opening it with his free hand. It was a nice day outside, so he decided it would be best not to waste it.

 

Namine went through the door first, since she knew she and Roxas would have a hard time getting through at the same time. It would have been amusing to try, though, she thought, a smile appearing on her lips.

Once they were out of the room, Sora allowed himself to lean his head against the back of the couch. He was so tired--no, exhausted, but he didn't want to waste any time he had with Kairi. After all, he hadn't seen her in a while.

 

Roxas followed Namine out, shutting the door quietly behind him.

Kairi turned to Sora, her small smile dimming some. She squeezed his hand and placed her free hand on his forearm, examining his face. "How are you feeling?" she asked after a short silence. She was curious as to how he was actually feeling on the inside, not wanting to just guess by the way he appeared.

 

Sora turned his head to look at Kairi, his blue eyes landing on hers. "I'm okay," he assured her softly. He wasn't sure if he was talking about physically or emotionally, but his answer actually covered both. Physically, he would survive, so that was good enough. And emotionally, he was recovering from the past few days of stress.

 

Kairi nodded slightly, accepting that answer. She was glad to at least hear "okay". She wasn't sure why, but she was. She gazed into Sora's eyes, recognizing how drained he appeared to be right now.

 

"How are you?" Sora asked softly, noticing Kairi looking deeper into his eyes. He was too tired to react to that, so he didn't bother trying to hide anything that may have been locked up inside his orbs. A window to the soul...And he had no urge to shut that window at the moment.

 

Kairi smiled weakly. "I'm getting better," she replied honestly, thinking about how much worry, anticipation, and fear she had felt in the last couple days. She was afraid for Sora, and worried about him too. She had been looking forward to finally being with him again, but she hadn't expected it to be like this. With what she saw in his eyes, he seemed relieved that the whole charade was over with, but physically and emotionally worn out. It was sad to see that, but Kairi was just grateful he was with her.

 

"Mmm," Sora hummed, nodding faintly. He didn't like that she wasn't already alright, but he knew he couldn't expect her to be after surviving a situation like this. It wasn't fair to any of them, but he was at least glad that she was doing better now. His eyes softened a bit, his eyes wandering down to their hands and then back up to Kairi's face. "I missed you," he said softly, his blue eyes staying on hers.

 

The impact those words had on her heart made Kairi feel as if she wanted to cry. She knew it was because she had missed him so much over the past few days, and had been worried sick. She was scared she had lost him earlier today, back at the rink, but he was with her now. She couldn't be more grateful. "I missed you too," she confessed softly. You wouldn't believe how much I did, she thought silently.

 

Sora lightly ran his thumb over Kairi's hand, his eyes wandering down without thought or choice. He was having a very hard time keeping his eyes open at all, but he knew he could force himself to stay awake a bit longer. His hurting shoulder was helping keep him awake, anyway.

 

Kairi tilted her head to the side, taking in the face of the boy before her. Even though he didn't wear the best expression, she was happy to see those eyes again. She missed them, and she missed the person they belonged to even more. She was surprised she had missed him so much over the course of a few days, but Kairi supposed that was to be expected, considering how much time they spent together, and how powerful their love was.

 

Sora blinked slowly, his eyes staying half-open as he gazed at his hand and Kairi's. He wasn't thinking too deeply; he was far too tired for that. He was mainly thinking about how much he had just wanted to see her in the past few days, and how badly he wanted to hold her. He still did want to hold her, but since she was sitting near his wounded shoulder, he couldn't wrap his arm around her.

 

"...Why don't you get some rest?" Kairi suggested softly, squeezing Sora's hand lightly. She could tell he was exhausted; anyone could see that. But it was obvious he was fighting the feeling, and she didn't want him to do that, especially if it was for her sake.
