Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return

Sora looked over all the stuff spread over the island. Who knew so much stuff was needed for a simple batch of cookies? he mused, scanning over all the items required for the baked good.

 

"Here we go," Kairi said with a soft smile, approaching the island and standing next to Sora once more. She used the measuring cup to add the right amount of baking soda into the empty bowl first. For some reason, she had a feeling this was going to get messy.

 

"What next, Chief?" Sora asked playfully, leaning over Kairi's shoulder to look into the bowl. She had only put in one thing so far....one thing out of ten million others. That's how it looked, anyway.

 

"Add a little flour, salt, some cream butter, sugar, brown sugar, some vanilla, and then we need to mix them with eggs," Kairi listed from her head, grabbing the flour after putting down the baking soda. She looked up at Sora and gave him a look, letting him know they still had a lot to do.

 

Sora arched a brow in confusion. In her long list, Kairi had completely lost him. "Huh?" he asked, intimidated by the long list of things they had to do. How was he supposed to remember all that...?

 

Kairi laughed softly. "How about you just crack the eggs for me?" she suggested with a reassuring smile. Among the list of things, that was the last. She figured he would have remembered that one best.

 

Sora smiled sheepishly. "Right," he said, reaching for the nearby egg carton. He opened it up and went to crack the egg on the edge of the counter, knowing he had to be very gentle. If he kept it light, then he would just keep the egg together and then dump it in over the bowl.

 

Kairi carefully turned over the bag of flour, pouring it into the measuring cup. She had a feeling these cookies would be great, especially with Sora's help.

 

Sora cracked the egg against the edge of the island and immediately knew he had done it too hard. "Oh," he moaned, lifting another hand to try and contain the egg fluid leaking out of the shell and onto the ground and island.

 

Kairi turned her attention at the sound, and her eyes widened as she began to chuckle. "Uh-oh," she said, looking up at Sora. Oh well, accidents happened. She would clean it up in a moment.

 

Sora met Kairi's eyes with a guilty, sheepish smile. "Sorry," he apologized. He should have known better and not have done something as careless as trying to crack an egg too hard.

 

"Don't be," Kairi said with a small smile, shaking her head. "Accidents happen." Besides, she was sure something much worse could have occured. At least nothing really bad happened.

 

Sora grinned sheepishly, batting his eyelashes twice. "Do I still get to lick the spoon?" he asked sweetly, giving Kairi a puppy-dog look.

 

Kairi looked up from the floor and immediately her eyes were set on that look--the puppy-dog look. She giggled softly and shook her head in amusement, but gave in nonetheless. "Of course," she said with a smile. Sora was too cute sometimes, and she couldn't help but give in to his antics. But she had said earlier that she would let him, so there was no reason to say no here, even if he did make a little bit of a mess.

 

Sora removed his puppy-dog look, his victory coming pretty easily. Kairi was a sucker for that look, probably because he didn't over-use it and wear it out.

 

"But, you'll only get to lick the spoon if we actually get some cookie dough made," Kairi said matter-of-factly. She reached for the cream butter, knowing that she still needed to add that into the bowl.

 

Sora chuckled at Kairi's statement. "Yeah, that's definitely true," he said with a smile. He looked down at the cracked egg he held in his hands and then wondered what he should do it it. He couldn't very well clean up his mess while he was holding onto the egg...

 

Kairi nodded with a small smile, her eyes staying on her work. She put a certain amount of the cream butter into the bowl, knowing that they had more ingredients to add.

 

"Uh..." Sora trailed off, looking from the egg up to Kairi. "...What should I do with this?" he asked sheepishly, referring to the wet, sticky mess he held in his hands.

 

Kairi turned her head, her eyes immediately finding the gooey mess in Sora's hands. "Just throw the shell in the garbage, and then wash your hands," she suggested. "Then maybe you can try again." She looked up and smiled at him teasingly.
